Thanks Micheal for offering your knowledge to help us parents out. We have a couple of groups you might want to check out. Ask A Recruiter and Ask A Sailor. These are two groups where us parents can ask Recruiters or Sailors questions. Thanks again for your willingness to help.

My son is shipping out today on the USS New Hampshire (SSN 778) for a three month European cruise. He has not yet rec'd a .mil e-mail address. When does he get that, so that we can e-mail him while at sea? This is his first deployment, so this is all new. He is a MMFN (Sub)(Weapons), formerly the rate known as "Torpedoman's Mate', or "TM".

Also, am I violating any rules or laws by specifically mentioning the boat, departure, and/or destination?

As for your son, he should get an email address upon checking into his new command. Usally it will be his first.last @navy.mil ex: (joe.smoketelly@navy.mil), and yes he will be able to recieve and send at sea depending on the mission of the Boat. And as far as posting info about the Boat its probably not a good idea as far as times dates and areas of destinations. It comprimises OPSEC ( Operationnal Security) we never know who's watching these days! Tell me his first name and I'll see if I can find his address on global..
