My son has recently been speaking with a recruiter regarding joining the Navy. He is scheduled to take his 1st ASVAB next week. My question is: Is there a guarantee he will go to school from boot camp? How does this all work?

Permalink Reply by Lori Paskash on March 26, 2010 at 10:56am I believe all rates have an A-school after bootcamp (I'm not sure about undesignated sailors)- so if your question is about A-school, your short answer is yes....however...rates are determined by qualifications and ASVAB scores AND available billets for the rate. The Navy has a whole lot more recruits than jobs in general now thanks to the economy and numerous rates are filled......the better he does on the ASVAB test (and I'm talking about shooting for a HIGH scores here), the better his odds are at getting a rate he wants. Several of those rates also have a C-school after A-school
