PIR Security

My son Nicholas had his PIR on 13/03/09. The ceremony was beyond belief. My wife and I took the 06:30 shuttle from the Marriott Courtyard. Cost for the trip was $3.00 per person each way. Company name was Metro Yellow and Metro Checker. Some other companies charge $5.00 per person. Our transport arrived at the main gate around 06:50. We by passed all of the vehicles waiting to enter the base and unloaded at the security shack. Our ID's were checked, our names crossed off the list and hands stamped. We were then allowed to walk to the Parade Hall. (4 short blocks)

A second security check point is for those people arriving by auto. Autos park in the chapel lot and are directed to the security check point in the building to the South of the Nex. Many of the people walking from the main gate see these people walking from the parking lot and follow them into the building. They then must endure a second security check. The lines are long and snake like. It is not necessary for those who check in at the main gate to enter this building.

The Parade Hall is located East of the chapel. The building is big and long. Walking toward the building you will see doors in the center with a garage door to the left and the right. You are required to turn left and walk to the North side of the building where you will enter.

Each division is marked with seating in front of each. Remember the early bird gets the worm. He may have a sore behind but the choice of seating and the PIR make it all worth while.

Thanks very much for the info. We too are staying at the Marriott Courtyard and will heading to our son's PIR at the endof February. Based on your info, it sounds like I should leave our car at the hotle and shuttle it over. Godspeed to your family and thanks.
Thank you,
My son Grant will have his PIR on 19/03/10 This is good info.
My son is also PIR on 3-19 what division is he in?

Hello
My wife is handicapped and although she can walk, she can't walk 4 blocks. If I drive in,how far is the walk after we get thru the check points? Is there anything set up for handicapped people? Like parking and seating in the hall?
Rich
Richard follow this link to a FAQ page and it has the answer to the wheel chair question. They do have them but it's a first come first served basis.

@ Gary T.....My daughter's PIR is 10/05/10 and we too will be staying at the Courtyard Marriot Hotel. Thanks for the info about the shuttle service, as that sounds like a great idea, and will save some time from having to get up as early, and wait in line in a car trying to get thru gate security. The only downfall I could invision with having to walk four blocks, is if the weather is very cold or wet, that may not be a good choice. I guess people should stay tuned to the weather, then make thier RTC PIR transportation decision the night before, or that morning. Thanks!
@ Rob Kirk.....My daughter is also on Ship 02 Div 951. Perhaps we'll see you at PIR next week.

Great info thanx! Hopefully it is still current, as I remember how the military liked to change things up for security reasons. Will be heading off to PIR myself this next week.
We are driving up from Texas and hope to be at the Courtyard Marriot by about 17:00. We will try and make it to the meet and greet. Where will the meet and greet be at in Anastasias?

Troy,
I expect we will see each other. My wife, son and I will also be staying at the Courtyard Marriot. We are planning to go to a "meet n greet" next door at Anastasias on Thursday night between 1800-2000 hrs. We plan to be in town by around 1700, maybe we can get in contact that evening.

Here's a strange issue for anyone out there. My son is at RTC right now, graduating in about 4 weeks. When he sent the usual Navy form letter his first week, it of course indicated my wife and I were on the list to attend PIR. However, he didn't use our full names but listed us as "MOM" and "DAD." Anyone have any insight? Are they going to let us in? What should we do if anything? Thanks.
Write your son and simply ask him to edit.correct the names on his list. You have plenty of time. If he phones home soon, and he probably will, tell him to correct his guest list.

Thanks Troy. I will do that right away.
