Navy Dads

My son Nicholas had his PIR on 13/03/09. The ceremony was beyond belief. My wife and I took the 06:30 shuttle from the Marriott Courtyard. Cost for the trip was $3.00 per person each way. Company name was Metro Yellow and Metro Checker. Some other companies charge $5.00 per person. Our transport arrived at the main gate around 06:50. We by passed all of the vehicles waiting to enter the base and unloaded at the security shack. Our ID's were checked, our names crossed off the list and hands stamped. We were then allowed to walk to the Parade Hall. (4 short blocks)

A second security check point is for those people arriving by auto. Autos park in the chapel lot and are directed to the security check point in the building to the South of the Nex. Many of the people walking from the main gate see these people walking from the parking lot and follow them into the building. They then must endure a second security check. The lines are long and snake like. It is not necessary for those who check in at the main gate to enter this building.

The Parade Hall is located East of the chapel. The building is big and long. Walking toward the building you will see doors in the center with a garage door to the left and the right. You are required to turn left and walk to the North side of the building where you will enter.

Each division is marked with seating in front of each. Remember the early bird gets the worm. He may have a sore behind but the choice of seating and the PIR make it all worth while. Gary F.

my doughter PIR in april that was good info so i need to make sure everyone have a ID ,but does my 13 years need a id does anyone know
My son had his PIR last Friday, 4/15/11. The ceremony was awesome. I wqs very surprised at how easy it was to get in. We came from the A school base so that helped. We did not even need the pass and no vehicles were inspected. From what I heard fro this board, I expected alot more. If you are military or retired, I really suggest staying at the navy Lodge on the A School base. My son was grad-n-go. His barracks was 1 block from the Navy Lodge. He walked there when he went back at night and walked to the lodge in the morning.

We are having trouble finding the original letter that our grad sent us. We have her ship and division and the password for the Parking PDF file I was just worried that there was something on the original letter that we needed to bring for the parking pass.  Was there a seperate pass in the letter that we need?

Any information would be appreciated since we are leaving tomorrow.  Just trying to make sure I am all set.

To my knowledge there is nothing else you should need except ID's for everyone. As I mentioned above, they did not even check for the parking pass. Just ID's at the visitor center before going to the drill hall. I hope this helps and tell your daughter Thank You for serving.

Thanks.

are student IDs ok?  Her 15 year old sister is coming.  we have birth certificate.
