Navy Dads

Good day to each of you. Glad I've found this site.

My son, Jared, left for RTC on the 30th and arrived safely that evening.

While I can't even to begin how proud of him I am I feel a bit selfish for missing him so much. I'm always wondering what he's doing. This is the first time that his Mom nor I cannot communicate with him. We know he's safe and being taken care of.

Jared is an amazing young man. He was lucky that this is the very first time whereas the Navy is allowing Navy Reserve Recruits to contract for Navy Diver. After Boot camp he will stay in Great lakes for 7 weeks of Navy Diver Prep and then onto Navy Dive A School in Panama city, Fl for about 14 weeks.

Prior to joining Jared was involved with other local members of SPECop recruits for working out, training in the water (YMCA) and being lead by an active duty Chief. Both his mom, step-dad and I were amazed at what shape he was in when he left. He has a clear goal and I know him, he'll achive it.

So, I bet each one of you know the feeling of wondering what your child is doing "right now". I'm glad I've found this site.

Thanks and let me know if your child is in Jared's ship and/or Div.

Hi Tom.  Our sons are in the same ship/division.  I'm sure they're having the time of their lives right now.  I went through the same RTC, only a long time ago when I think ships were still being made out of wood :).

My son will remain in Great Lakes for eight weeks following PIR, and then on to BUD/S (winter class).  That's when the real fun begins.

My best to Jared!

Regards,

Bill

Hi Bill and thank you for muster. I too was at Great Lakes in 1977 and then onto Radioman A school in San Diego. Back when we were in I don't think they were so "PC". :)

BUD/s in the winter. Yikes. Good for him. How proud are you.

Jared will also remain in NTC for 7 weeks for Navy Diver Prep and then onto Panama City for A school.

Wishing our boys tons of luck.

Tom

My son Zach is on Ship 04, Div. 820

Richard

Hi Richard and thanks for checking in.

Have you heard anything from Zach after the "arrived safe" phone call?

I'm hoping they can call this Sunday. (Don't know if they call any specific days)

Not knowing is kind of tough but as they say, No news is good news.

Thanks again.

Tom

no calls for awhile Tom....maybe around week 3

Any idea how long it takes for a letter to get from us into their hands?
Thanks!

at the beginning of RTC it takes at least a couple of weeks....later on about a week

Thank you very much
Gents, great reading, our son has followed the same path you each speak of, he decided in HS that this was his true direction and has been driven ever since. With PST's and a great Seal Mentor, he went to boot camp in good shape and determined. My only concern was the P-days and no time to train. I guess the 800 divisions get a some time to train and swim to stay in shape. The 8 weeks post boot camp are great opportunity to prepare for the rigors of BUDS. I too miss the young man, we're really looking forward to the first letter and phone call. All the best to all, hooyah

Have not heard from him after the safe call

... looks like it might the weekend of the 23rd for a phone call.

Richard

Got the first letter in the mail yesterday. Dated 8/3.
Just that letter gives a small feeling of connection.
William, Jared mentioned in his letter that the first few days/nights were standing in line and it was boring without the PT. I think it's safe to say that I'm sure that's changed by now. :-)
