I have Marine Moms requesting how can their Marines ship their personal vehicles to Hawaii. So my question is how do our Mariines and Sailors go about doing this??Thanks!!

It is very expensive! It is better to get a car there from a departing Marine than to send it by boat!
Thanks for thet info David!
Matson. Here is the main info:

Hawaii Rates
To Hawaii
From Los Angeles (Long Beach) and Oakland ports $1,072.00
From Seattle port $1,072.00

They have a guaranteed service for about an additional $600.

That assumes that you drop the vehicle off at the port yourself. There are additional costs and fees if you ship/move your vehicle to the port from wherever you live.

That is what my son did as well when he went to Japan. He bought one from a departing sailor and then gave it to another sailor when he headed home.
Shipping a car to Japan, you will never drive it on Japanese roads because it will have to go through Customs and they will down check it and have the Sailor or Marine spend his money on it to bring it up to their specs which will be never good enough. One Marine tried to take his brand new Toyota Tundra over and Customs said that there were too many things wrong with it and wanted him to fix them, his estimates were over 10 grand to fix it. He just shipped it back home. By the time he got the bill for shipping over/back and the customs bill it was over 7 grand.
How about costs getting car from Seattle to Norfolk ??
I thank everyone for their input here. Alot of good information to know.
Hi Scott... A Navy dad on here sent his sons truck from somewhere in Texas to Virginia and I think it was right around $750.00 ..... Not sure which shipper he used, but I can try to find out.For some reason his computer will not open up the Navy Dads website.Let me know if you want me to find out and I will send him an e-mail! The distance should be fairly close to the same as here.
Hi Cora! Good questions. Nick and I had similar discussions not long ago. But for Hawaii??? I have one word.... Harley Davidson. Ok, maybe two. But you get the idea. Cheaper to ship. Cheaper to drive. Cheaper to insure. Makes for a cheap date for a day ride on their off days. Weather there is awesome most of the time (so I hear). And its easy to sell if they don't want to ship it home back!! I have a very good friend that is a realtor in Honolulu that has lived there for almost 30 years that may be able to do some re-con for me on the best type of deals (or place) in the islands for buying something relatively sensible for a Sailor assigned there. But David's comment above sounds most sensible of all (except the Harley idea of course). But thats just me. =)
