Navy Dads

And now the journey begins,  He actually arrived at GL on the 23rd. and  we got to talk to and text him while he was hanging out at the airport waiting for the rest of his group.  First night was rough without him my wife and his fiance as well as my self at times were very emotional.  I can't wait to get his address so I can start mailing  the letters out.  He said he was putting three letters in his pockets of his civies for the three of us when we recieve the "box".  I am looking foreward to using this site and soaking up as much as I can from those who have been down this road before. A lot seems to have chaanged since I went away to recruit traning with the USCG in 1979.

Hank, my son left on December 2nd and spent Christmas and New Year's in BC. He PIR's on 02/05. He said the mail is very important, and that it wasn't that bad. The last 3 weeks the RDCs treat them pretty well. You will be amazed at the difference in your son when you see him at PIR.

It has been a month now since PIR and he is loving the Navy. The time has flown by and it will for you and your family, too. Good luck to you and thank your son for his service.
My son is Ship 10 (I think this is the Enterprise), Division 164. Projected PIR is 23 April. Was good to just get a 2 sentence comm from him!!

His letter said he was in ship 04 Div 161. PIR date as of now is April 16th. Anyone else?

We recieved the form letter yesterday with his proper address , PIR date and some other info. He scrawled a few quick lines on the bottom, basically said he was doing fine, how much he hates "whitey tighteys" ect. Good to hear from him even itf it was short.

You'll get the form letter next...with luck there will be a couple of lines your son will scrawl on the bottom. It should have his mailing address and a password to get a parking pass for PIR if you elect to drive on base. Then you'll have a gap of two to three weeks before you hear again....but write your letters as he'll need the support because the first couple of weeks are full of "what have I gotten myself into" thoughts!!!

We recieved the "box" late yesterday, I held up pretty well, his mother had a major melt down though. He wrote us small notes and left them in the pockets of his jeans.

Hey there, Hank: my son (Chris) shipped to GL on the 23rd. He's the first in my family to join the Navy. I couldn't be a prouder pappa. I've learned quite a bit from this site. I'm probably the one who is more stressed out - my son has wanted to be a sailer for quite some time!

My son left 3/4/10 got a quick call from him on 3/6/10 we were real suprise (missed the call got message) he said he was real tired, not fun and said he was ok. He has to remember its not Disneyland. We got his address today (div 171 ship 10/uss enterprise) already sent a letter out to him.
that is exactly right Chris....son Eric was a grad-n-go as well....you'll have to wait for awhile...think I was able to pick him up around 20:00, but had him until Sunday evening......

Our daughter is now in her third week of boot camp, and appears to be doing quite well. She went in Feb. 10, and PIR is April 9, when she's "definitely" a "Grad & Go" from the ceremonies. That is, she is not released to liberty until she moves to her A School location, which fortunately is also in Great Lakes. Apparently this can take up to five hours before she's released, but could mean she can spend the whole weekend with us without having to report back at night. Either way will be great.
My son left on 3/3 and is in Ship 10 Div 167. I think the letter said PIR was 4/23???

My son left 3/08 Ship10 div 173... PIR apr 30

First letter was classic Dale, 4 lines available and he only used 3. Finally wrote us a "real" letter and first words were "get me outa here", was kidding, he spent a year in DEP so he was ready to go. Informed us he's already passed one of his physical and academic tests and should go to E2 after PIR.

Only thing I'm questioning is he said he is "flag#2"... what exactly is this?
