The worst has yet to come, my son completed boot camp the first part of Nov.

The first two weeks he will wounder what he was thinking when signed, my son said the first two weeks he wanted to quit but stuck with it. You will get letters that are a week old saying how much he hates this. Not hearing from him and waiting for his letters was the worst part. BUT, make sure you write him lots of letters because it does help.

I would start a letter in the morning and every now and then I would write abiut the days events, next thing I know I have a 10 page letter, throw in a couple of pictures and you will make you son happy. Also tell him how proud you are and let him make it through this. Once this is over and you go up to see him on the big day, he will have turned into a man. It's great stuff.

now comes the hard stretch...you'll get the form letter...maybe a few lins handwritten on the end. YOu should be able to get his ship and div number from his recruiter if you don't have it aldreay to write. Don't try to sneek anything in the letters...not good. A few photos...best if printed in the letter. Then nothing for a couple of weeks.....if you've done your research on the site, you've seen many of us remind folks that no news is good news...keep the faith and now is the time to start "paying it forward" so to speak with others that are about to go through their own journey. That helps...relate your experiences to others with kids about to head to Great Lakes or in DEP. This is just a warm-up....if your boy deploys on a ship he'll be out at sea for about 7 months and during those months there are times with no comm for various reasons....I know I went up to three-four weeks with Eric and Kat when they were at sea with no contact.
