This is from FC1(SW) Sean M. Officer. He is the Leading Petty Officer for Combat Systems 'A' Schools. He oversee the FC, ET, IC and GM 'A' schools. This is some info he passed onto the group.

The FC's go through 3 phases of school here, Phase I ATT (7 weeks), FC 'A' School(13 weeks) and Phase II ATT (3 weeks). There is a wait to get into ATT. I am not sure what it is at the moment but we are making some changes to help reduce training time and get the FC's into 'A' school a bit faster. The 3-4 month wait between ATT and 'A' school has been reduced to about 2 weeks at most and there is no wait going from 'A' school back to ATT. We currently have 2 'A' School shifts with FCs on them. The Day shift is 0630-1500. The Mid-day shift is 0930-1800. The mid-day shift is no longer classing up FCs though. Both our night shifts are ETs and the mid-day is being adjusted to accommodate ETs as well. I cannot speak for ATT's hours as they are a separate entity but I am more than happy to find out any specifics if needed.

The 'A' School curriculum is currently a combination of Computer Based Training (CBT) and Instructor Lecture. Up until July of last year, the 'A' schools were self paced like ATT. We implemented a "lock step" program that keeps the entire class in the same module and allows the instructors to focus on one topic at a time. The class gets a much more focused type of training that allows us to teach teamwork as well since everyone is working in the same area. I personally like to break the class into groups of 5 to work together on class assignments. Since going to the new style of teaching, we have seen a 5% increase in the course average and the number of Honor Graduates, Students graduating with an average of 90% or higher, has tripled. We have also cut an average of 35 days off the average time to get through the course.

My youngest daughter just finished FC A school yesterday - we are extremely proud parents. My oldest daughter leaves for Navy boot camp in 13 days. This is a very exciting time in our home. Hoping that the C school hold times remain a bit long so my youngest can see my oldest PIR sometime in June.

My boyfriend is graduating FC A school in 3 weeks and I was wondering how the C school process goes. Does anyone know what the current hold time is for C school? Will he receive his orders of his specialty and which base hes being relocated to right away, or closer to his ship date? Any help will be greatly appreciated!! :)

My son graduated from A School in September. He was home for 2 weeks of leave during the holidays. He arrived back at GL today to find orders for C school in February. Made for a great New Year's Day gift for him and the family.....

I would imagine they must know each other. She was really happy for ATT to be over and to get started on A school.

Congrats Theresa, good luck to your sailor! Our son will complete C school early next year in San Diego. He just got orders for USS Ronald Reagan, we're all pumped up about that! Hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving and hooyah to all our sailors!

Can't believe we have come upon the end of C school.  Now it is time for them to go the fleet - another adventure for us parents!  Mine is going to Japan - any others?  That was definitely not my first choice, but it was his - and he is quite happy!

Been a while checking up on NavyDads.  Just got back from visit to San Diego to see Alex and his shipmates getting ready to graduate C School for CIWS.  Got to visit with Nate, he's doing well Tim, and we all had a great time.  We visited a Brewery in Escondido and were able to tour the USS Hulsey (DDG-97), we were impressed!  Plan to go back in a few weeks while the weather is still good.  Hope everyone's sailor is safe and doing well!
