Has anyone else's son or daughter been waiting to class up for their A school. My son has been waiting for two weeks now in Pensacola. Just curious of how long he has to wait.

Phase I is for sailors who have just arrived. They are required to wear their uniforms at all times outside of their barracks, are not allowed to leave base and are required to muster three times each day.

Phase II sailors have been at the school for an average of 2-6 weeks. They can wear civilian clothes and they can go off-base - only with a liberty buddy.  They are not allowed to stay out overnight.

Phase III are sailors who have been at the school approximately 4-12 weeks and have shown personal responsibility. They no longer have to attend evening muster and can stay out overnight.

Can someone explain what the three phases are in "A" school are? My son is at Fort Meade for his Mass Communication training and is waiting to go to phase 3 and I was just wondering about the requirements ?

I think it has something to do with privileges etc.

Son graduated from GL on 08/31/12 & is now attending A School in San Antonio. The experience of being in GL for PIR was one of the most emotional experiences of my life. One that none of us will forget.

Hello all, can someone give a good answer? My son is suppose to go to A school in San Diego, CA to be a surface sonar tech. I understand there are 3 schools involved in this. My problem is the time involved. First we heard schools being 6 weeks, 6-8 weeks, and 4 weeks total of 16-18 weeks. now I'm being told he could be in school as long as 16 - 24 MONTHS. Has anyone been through the schooling, or have an answer for me? thanks
