A new guy at this. Our sons PIR was April 10 also. He move over to the school side at GL and as of yesterday was still on hold for SCC and ATT.
Learning it takes patience and time to learn how the Navy does things.
SCC is for two weeks and then ATT is 36 business days as we understand it.
With the holds and backlog of new sailors, it may be August for our son before he actually starts A school. He is going STG (SONAR) and that will mean
San Diego after ATT completes.

From the comments, it would seem to be a common theme for many of us.

keep us posted on how your guys and gals progress.

Good day Tim. My sons PIR was also 4-10-09,but he was g&g.He flew out Fri. afternoon from O'Hare to GulfPort Miss.I realize that the process takes time, but then i am not the one sitting there wanting to get the show on the road.
Just received a text from James this morning and it looks like his class date has been moved back a little further than first thought due to being bumped by a senior noncom.I just told him to relax and enjoy the ride which i guess may be easier for someone in their 50's than someone in their teens.Guess age does have some advantages!I know James would like to try to get home over memorial day if everything works out.
Wishing the best for brittany and you and the family.

My daughters PIR was 4-10-09 and she flew to Pensacola on the 15th. She is waiting to class up also and they have told her she may be there 3 to 6 months. She has put in for leave to try and get home for her brothers high school graduation on the 24th of May.

Good day to all, my son Kevin S. will have his PIR Ceremony on 4-24- 09. /and then to start pensicola soon there after, good luck to him and all them that serve, we are so proud of all these young Americans. On the first call we recieved that we could talk at length, I realized one very important thing, His convrtsations of old always started with ( I ) this conversation had many begings with ( WE ) that alone made me so proud. all things they have accomplished has made us very proud, We didn't want to forget the little things. Have a great day all.

My son was g and g from a 12/19/08 pir. He just started a-school on 4/5/09 at p-cola. It beats the heck out of running the streets. He is now an accomplished painter and even does a little carpentry after a 3 1/2 month wait. I for one am greatful for the wait as he was able to come home for two weeks (2 days with us and 10 with his buddies) and am looking forward to the time he brings a whole gang of sailors with him. They did spend a good amount of time while he was waiting doing pt. Good Luck to all!!

Hi Gary, My son James is going thru pretty much the same thing only as a SW in Gulf Port Miss. He was grad and go on 4-10-09 and he is still waiting to class up.He is starting his second week at Gulf Port waiting for the class to fill up. I just got off of the phone with him last night and told him to just relax and use the spare time to get to know his shipmates and advance anything he possibly can getting to phase 2 then working on phase 3.I do know he has been enjoying the chow ,the slower pace after B.C and being able to go to the gym to do one of the things he loves in life, lifting weights.
Best of luck to Nicholas, and to you and your family.

Hello all, my name is Gary T.. My son Nicholas had his P.I.R. on 13/03/09. I am adding this comment in hopes that other parents will read this and realize Basic Training to A-School doesn't happen overnight. Nicks' first assignment was to T.S.C. Great Lakes immediately after boot camp. I like many other parents assumed he would be going directly to A-School for Gunners Mates. What I did not know and I am sure many of us and those yet to come do not know is the preparation which must take place prior to attending A-school. Nick was assigned to the Franklin. He attended I.N.D.O.C. (Basic Indoctrination Course) for five business days. He was then placed on hold for five more business days, (one week). He used that time to prepare his paper for Phase 2 liberty. (Civilian cloths). Nick was then transferred to his present ship the Enterprise. He had to wait one business day prior to starting S.C.C. (Surface Common Core School). The course lasted twelve business days with the final test administered on the 13th day. Nick is currently on day hold for A.T.T. (Apprentice Technical Training). Another ship transfer is possible. No scheduled beginning date just hold. Others in the GM field have spent from one week to four weeks before starting A.T.T.. Then when that is over the wait for A School begins. Gary T.

My son's PIR is on April 24th. He will be going to A School in Meridian Mississippi as a YN. May I ask, what is a YN and how long is A School for this job type?
