Navy Dads

Yesterday we received the second phone call since our daughter has arrived at boot camp. She was bawling because she's homesick. My heart is just a mess. Someone told me this is normal. I also know it's good for her, but was hoping I could get some encouragement.

Really sad navy mom.

Hello Sheryl, please relax...  She is going through many changes, all of the recruits will experience some type of emotions through the journey ahead.  I also know she is in the best of hands - the Navy will keep her busy and eventually the change will take hold.  From your end, write every day and offer words of encouragement and pride - short letters are good.  Before you know you'll be at graduation.

Sheryl,

First what an amazing young lady you raised. Yes it's very normal for them to feel this way. My son had the same response on how sad he was being away from home. That made me write him every day and encourage him to push forward and that it will all be worth it at PIR Graduation. To this day he says those letters of encouragement got him through the hard times. All of the sudden his letters got more positive and he was sure he could pass and was glad he made this choice. His last phone call to say he was now a Sailor was total joy for him and for us parents as you can imagine.
Sheryl, I agree with Jim . Your daughter is in the best of hands. And absolutely as the days go by so will your daughters confidence build. It is certainly an amazing process to be a part of. Write your daughter as often as you feel writing words of encouragement will go along way in helping her .

Rest assured Sheryl, it is normal. It is normal for both of you. And it is good for both of you. This is part of her becoming an adult and your letting go so that she can become and adult. I know your mother's heart aches because you see her in pain and want to make it all better. What you may not realize is that talking to you on that call helped her way more that you realize. I'll be praying for you both.

Blessings on y'all,

Gary

Thanks so much for all your encouragement and prayers! I'm already breathing a little easier!
yes she at the "this sux stage" if anyone tells her their not homesick their lying through their theeth! Its get so better and fun!!! keep the faith :)

She'll be fine as will you! Keep the faith....RTC has moved more than 3 million sailors through their doors -they have a plan and it works!

When I got my second call I thought it sounded like my son was going to quit. I told him I loved him and believed in him and to stick with it and work hard. The third call he had turned 100% around. It just takes time for them to get used to it. I could hardly believe it was him that third time. If you need support you have definitely come to the  right site. Give time and she will get better and so will you.

I just thought of this visit FACES OF BOOT CAMP on YouTube. It takes you from day one to PIR. Very good site and talks about homesickness ect.ect. You get to see how they train week by week. Good luck to you and your daughter and save your tears for PIR.

Our son arrived at boot camp yesterday - man it was hard to watch him go and see him fearful of what was about to come.  We fee the same - although we are concerned we know he will come out of this stronger on the other side!
