No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

My son will be going to A school pensacola for AO rate I know that there is a C school for AO. Is that what follows A school for everyone? What qualifies you for c school? Thanks

Glen, Vee a friend of mine from NAVY 4 MOM'S grand son Michael spent about the same amount of time or just a bit longer. Both will be going to V.L.S. school with final assignment to the same ship. Michael was two weeks ahead of Nick. My son couldn't believe he had been there that long. My only hope is that C-School which is scheduled for 01/Feb/10 does not have any delays. Gary T.

Gary - I just can't believe how long they kept your son on hold. that's almost 4 months from A school graduation to C school. Unreal.

Jim, my son Nicholas is a GM. He had his P.I.R. on 13/Mar/09. He first had I.N.D.O.C., then S.C.C. (Which is now part of basic training), A.T.T., then GM A-School. There were many many holds between classes.

Now in an attempt to answer your questions about orders. I imagine each rate is different. Each A-School (actual school to achieve rate) is of different lengths. My son did not pick his orders until his tenth and final week of A-School. (3/Oct/o9) He then waited another 5 weeks to receive his actual hard copy orders with a shipping date to C-School of 31/Jan/10.

I hope 2010 finds our sailors moving along more quickly then 09. The hold times can be boring and full of monotony but before you know it they eventually move on. Tell your son A-School an d all its delays are just another part of his NAVAL journey. Gary T.

reminder that those passes are ONLY needed if you plan to park on base...if you are taking a taxi or shuttle, you do not need parking passes.

Does anyone know at what point they get they're orders? I read somewhere else that they start getting orders during week 6, anyone else know if that's true?
Sneaking up on 1/29 pretty quickly...thinking that Battle Stations has got to be in their sights out there now... ;)

Thanks Gary, we still do not know if he will be a grad and go. San Diego is a lot warmer. Best of luck to your son.
