No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Just a reminder to all. After a week or 2 you will also get a form letter from the Navy thanking you for your son or dauhter's service. Do not be scared when you that return address. In the letter there will also be the correct address to send all mail. They will even allow your sailor a chance to write 2 or 3 sentences at the bottom.

Just got back from watching my son swear in and leave for GL. We are now officially a Navy family. It was an emotional goodbye for his mother and myself but we made it through it ok. I held it together although all the nice words that I had gone over and over in my head were never spoken. Didn't want him to see how really nervous I was. You know how us men are. Hold all those emotions in at all cost. Nothing worse than a 6' tall 220 lb biker slobbering all over the place. LOL

Congratulations Steve! I know you are now a proud Navy Dad. See some of the post below about getting your letter writing started. Contact your son's recruiter in 2 - 3 days and get his address at RTC. He will need all that support from you in the weeks ahead. Also look in groups for your son's division and ship once you know what it is.

We got our first real phone call today. He sounded great. He said they were on week 2 day 5 and started week 3 tomorrow. PIR 11/13. He also said they got their first mail yesterday, and to keep it coming. It was really great to hear his voice. Good luck to all with PIR this week. Good luck to all just arriving. It is an interesting journey, to say the least.

Helloe everyone, just read the last few post and they describe to a " T " the feelings and emoitions my wife and I went thru these last eight weeks, our sailor will PIR this Friday, we fly out tomorrow morning and can not wait to see him and to see the new person he has become.
Jack maybe we will see you there, Tim have a great trip, Mike, Larry and Scott take the advice and write as much as you can, your boys will write every chance they get and the letters will keep them going, the first few weeks are the hardest and then they will be so busy they wont have time to miss you, the first call at week three will be very emoitional for you and your sailor, be positive and supportive and you will notice the change in his voice the next call and even more the next call, these young men and women have made a change in their lives that they have never experinced before and they will all be better for it in the end.
God Bless all of them, GO NAVY !!! Ship 03 Div 349 PIR this Friday, everyone have a great trip.
