No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

David,
You're right about all that! It's difficult for us moms to see our kids personal belongings shipped in a box. And it comes so soon after they have left for BC there really isn't much time to adjust to all the emotions their feeling. There is more weeping to come -after the first letter, after the first phone call. I live by the old saying "time heals all". It's so true and the sad feelings do subside.

Tony.............go to the Navy4Moms website. If you think your wife took it badly, read how other moms handled it, some are still crying. After reading the entries there, you will be glad we have site for Dads now.

Came home from work late to find my wife a little weepy. We had received our daughter's box. It upset my wife more than I would have expected. I unpacked and put it out of site.

Michael that is great! I wrote my son every day and many in the family and friends wrote him often. He told me he was out of room to keep all the letters but did not want to throw them away. He also said keep the letters coming. They apparently have very little space. I sent him an oversized self-addressed envelope already stamped. All he had to do was pack the envelope full of letters, seal it and put it in the mail back home. It is something you may want to consider as time goes on.

I got got my sons information today! He is assigned to Ship 7 Div 126. My first letter is alreasy in the mail!!!
