No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Ok Scott and Jack I got a package from my son today. I am a bit confused there was nothing in it with his address just his clothes and cell phone and i pod and a big folder full of Navy paper work. when he called he said in three weeks i would get a package with his personal belongings and his address info. So either the box came early and the other info wont be here for 2 more weeks or  I am just very confused.

Hi Scott,
I was looking at the calendar and thinking maybe Dec 7th. When I spoke briefly with my son on Sunday, he said he hadn't even processed in yet, which means that this whole week could be filled with those activities. I have no idea really, and then there is also Thanksgiving that will mean at least one lost training day.
Watch for the box, and those letters and keep us all up to date with whatever you hear.

RTC posts, on very rare occasions, when the number of divisions exceeds the "norm"....when this happens they limit the attendees at PIR.....hence the warning about the PIR on the 12th.  Normally it is not an issue....PIR is a showcase event for the Navy and they will go out of their way to fit everyone in.  Bet this has not happened more than 3 or 4 times over the past 4 years.....

what you want to do is connect with folks with the same PIR day.  Determine what training group your sailors are in at http://www.bootcamp.navy.mil/upcoming_grads.asp  you will need his division number which typically means waiting until the form letter arrives

Our Son arrived on October 2nd . I am looking to connect with other parents that had children arrive the same day. Might be nice so  we can share info on when we hear from them . Hope all of the families are adjusting it has been hard for our family with out our son. He turned 18 1 week before he left so to me  he is still a little boy.
