No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Wow finally got my S.R's letter, he is doing great got his E-2 and focusing on E-3. Sounds like he was spared a Rack ransacking for keeping his rack nice and tidy! Looks like my anal retentivness at home has paid off! I use to joke with him as a child that we ran a tight Ship here at home! Now he's in the Navy! And I'm a proud Navy Dad!

@sean kelly I think they get E2 if they pass their initial PT test if I am not mistaken. My daughter missed hers by 2 push ups..bummer but she will get more chances.

and hello all!

we try not to be brutally frank all the time, but try not to sugar coat things either!  And yes, you will be pretty surprised at the change you see in your sailor at PIR !!  HooYah!

No bursted bubble here Paul. Thanks for the info. I thought that was the case. I just didn't know it happened midway through. Thx again.

sorry to "burst your bubble"....most all SR's PIR as an E2....

Comment by Sean Kelly on September 7, 2012 at 7:45pm

Is it normal for an SR to move from E1 to E2 in the middle of boot camp? Or did my son just pull off a something I wan't aware he had in himself? Or, should he have been an E2 long ago and now finally made it? It doesn't really matter. I just thought they didn't move up until the end of Boot Camp. If he did achieve something extra, that would be a clear testimony as to how the boot camp experience has changed him (LOL). Thx in advance!

Hey thanks to all for the answers. I knew I could depend on you all. I didn't know I would be allowed with him at the airport. It looks like Pensacola is his next stop, based on his "A" school and rating. Unless something changes between now and then. Thanks again. Sean

Note that it will be awhile before he can even wear them...so there is no hurry!

Sean:  Depends on where A School is, and what his orders will be. Our daughter stayed at Great Lakes for the initial school, but they all have to get their orders after PIR, then pack and move or just pack, depending on what those orders are.  I would take things with you, but NOT to PIR.  Even if they're shipped out "immediately" it usually isn't until the wee hours of the morning the day following PIR, so you've got time to at least see him at the airport, knowing what you can give him.

If he still fits in them!
