No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

You can do it at the airport once he has been processed out of G.L. He can't have those items until then. I think it would be easier to ship his civvies after he gets settled at A School...

Does anyone know if I will be able give my son personal items, such as civvies and his cell phone, for him to take on to "A" school after his PIR. I had heard that they can't take anything back on base at the RTC that they didn't leave with. Just trying to plan ahead. I may have to ship them to him later. Thanks in advance for any help with this. Sean

After reading the previous post i feel privileged. My daughter is in day 18(PIR 12Oct12) and got to call home about 1030 this morning. She is enjoying the food and making progress in PT. She is a little homesick but the schedule is full enough she doesn't have time to dwell on it.

usually about 3-4 weeks in you'll get call....Sunday's are on a holiday schedule and they can write then....calls don't really fall on a given schedule

don't count on calls...you are entitled to two calls..."I'm here" and "I'm a Sailor!".....all other calls are "gifts" from the RDC's and may or may not occur

Finishing out week 4. 28 days left for my SR. Can't wait for that short weekend I'll get to spend with him before he heads to "A" school.

We just received our first letter from our son Dan at boot camp.  Sounds like he is doing well and getting things figured out.  Looking forward to the next letter.

So Pround! Just got a letter from Matt, he was one of 12 SR's to go before the board to interview for one of 5 awards. He was chosen to recieve "The Military Excellance" Award. We could not be any prouder!!!!

He started the letter off Dad/Mom something came up and I won't be marching with my Division at PIR. Then later in letter goes on to tell us about the Award and that he will be Leading the Divisions into the Hall.

Brovo Zulu Matt!!!!!

I totally agree with Jim.  I've been doing these forums for about 5 years now and there has been only 7 times that they couldn't get everyone in.  It is so rare that it isn't worth worrying about.
