No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Yikes! Only 4.... With my wife and his two brothers coming, I guess his grandparents won't be able to attend? And one of our SEAL friends has said he is coming to the PIR as well. I didn't realize there was such limited seating available.

Phillip SRs are given a chance to modify the list I believe a few weeks prior to PIR so write to your SR is what we did to finalize our attendees. NOTE: We all went in at the same time to PIR hall and no one in our party (guest) had to wait at the Visitor Center. But I gather that may all depend on the anticipated total number of PIR attendees in general. Here's more info: Additional Guests at PIR

I was wondering about the slotted 4 that can attend PIR what does extended family do? Like my oldests sons graduation from the USMC we had 8 people there and will probably have the same going to Kyle's graduation on Oct 12th. What have you guys experienced?

My son's PIR is Sept 28, 2012. When he called he told me they would be the last to graduate in whites for this summer. So I believe Jim is correct.

the whites and blues are seasonal.....and I believe the East is in blues Oct 1 thru April 1...

Hello again, Jeff. I got the impression that the whites are the primary dress uniform and that the blues are for particularly cold weather. I think the blues are a much heavier fabric - maybe wool.

Just got back from PIR and it was an amazing experience.  Not a dry eye in the house when those divisions started marching in.  I saw a positively amazing transformation in my son as we was considered for the top award but fell short.  Just to be in the top 20 out of 702 grads was an honor.

I wore slacks, shirt and tie. I never wear a tie.

Comment by Rick Binkley on August 28, 2012 at 8:21pm

something else to take into account on what to wear for PIR...before wearing banana hammocks, thongs, etc...be aware that the ceremonial drill hall's temperature will rival a meat locker. I was there 29 June in slacks and a sport coat and if you'll excuse the expression, could have etched glass with certain parts of my anatomy. There was a wide assortment of garb, from conservative to leisure....as was mentioned before, it's a formal military ceremony and pictures with your sailors in their dress uniforms will be priceless.
