No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Anyone else having problems with the mail (USPS). My son mailed out letters from boot camp well over a week ago and some recieved them and some didn't. Unfortunately one who didn't was his sister. She is so disappointed. Also, still looking for anyone with a person in Ship 13 Div 314. I'd like to compare stories from letters and phone calls. I love this site!!!
my two cents after attending two PIR's....this is a formal military ceremony and I dressed accordingly....while I didn't wear a three piece suits (which I did see BTW), I did wear dress slacks, and a sport coat...but it is your choice.....
As far as dress code, there really isn't any however, remember your sons and daughters will be in their dress uniforms. It's always nice to dress appropriately to show proper respect for their undertaking.
I think you could go to PIR in a thong and a wife-beater and no one would notice. People were just there to see their sons and daughters, finally. Plus, it made going through the security checkpoints a breeze!
I am wearing my navy dads t shirts and depending on weather jeans or shorts
I will be going to my second PIR this week. I saw everything from jeans to suits at the last PIR in 2008. This question hasn't come up before but I have not seen it for a while. If I remember it was in the forum on the main page.
OK, DUMB question. 3 years ago I went back to PI for my best friend's son's graduation. Kind of cool going back after over 30yrs when I was on the same parade deck. Most people had on shorts, jeans, T-shirts. It was very casual and laid back. What is the proper dress code for the PIR for the parents/friends?
Thanks, Jeff I'll do that.
Hey Mark that's awesome! You can also post this on a discussion forum and see if anyone else is in that same TG and DIV...
