No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

What is the best source for the most up-to-date PIR dates?

Comment by Allen Pool on August 23, 2012 at 10:26pm

My son, Dan, is Ship 4, Div 333.  He went in on the 15th.  PIR will should be in October, but haven't seen it posted yet.

Hi all, my son is in Ship 11 Div 332. Anyone else? With an Oct 12 PIR date.

Great to hear you received the box Martin! They do tend to get ripe sitting in the box. My son told me before he left that he was going to wear his ratty old shoes and throw them away when the time came. Thank God he did, the smell of those shoes would bring any man to his knees!!! LOL!

Hey Martin you got the civvies box the form letter letter with his mailing address and gate pass password you should get in about 5 days I'm guessing. We're on the same time zone and roughly about the same USPS distance from RTC. Go over that form letter carefully my friend lots of info there...

Got his box today and Shaun wasn't kidding, it also went straight to the laundry. All I need is his info so I can write and get ready for PIR.

Great to hear Jeff! I hope to get my sons letter soon so I can start sending him letters and prepare to see him at PIR.

Comment by Phillip Porter on August 22, 2012 at 12:53pm

@Jim - Expect a "few" what have I got myself into letters. This is COMPLETELY normal!  Just keep telling him how proud you and all of us are of him! They will doctor them up, PT them into shape and group punishment will end just as soon as they gel as a unit. All in good time!
