No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Came home today to the "Box" sitting at the front door. To me, I feel it puts me one step closer to seeing my Son at his PIR!! Hooyah!!!

Jim, I know how you feel.  My son is only 17 and I really miss him.

Jim, My daughter left a week ago and I didn't even get the "I'm here" phone call. Her GF got it. That was a huge disappointment. Especially how close we are. She is 24 and my best friend. Like Phillip said, coming from another Marine, no news is good news. I miss her from when I wake up, till a fall asleep. I know when I was in boot camp (about 50lbs ago) Writing home was my saving grace. I am sure as soon as they allow him to write, you will get a flood of letters saying how good he is doing. Stay strong. We are all here for ya buddy

Jim - My middle son entered bootcamp on Aug 14th, I have yet to hear from him as well. My oldest son joined the USMC 2 1/2 yrs ago. Being a former Marine I can tell you that if Navy bootcamp is anything like USMC Bootcamp, no news is good news. I know this does not help much, but I'm confident they are keeping our sons and daughters safe and all the while... busy! Hang in there you'll hear from him soon, I'm sure of it! Picture him running, doing push ups, reciting the general orders, rank structures, forgetting Port Side is right and Starboard Side is left, learning how to do everything: eat-sleep-walk Navy Style!

Hang in there Jim. Somewhere on this great website I learned that "no news is good news" for the first 2-3 weeks at BC. You should be hearing from him soon, and then it seems like time flies by, and before you know it you will be at PIR.

today is a very very rough day son been in bc for 2 weeks and i think not hearing from him is the hardest not knowing how he is doing. its been a day of a lot of tears and alot of wondering. my son is my best friend i miss him so much. i hope that i get a letter or something from him soon this is killing me. i know hes in great hands but that doesnt make any easier. SON I AM SO PROUD OF YOU.. GO NAVY

Joseph, just a wild guess and this is coming from a Jar Head, I think they have the choice.

Congratulations to this week's Captain's Cup winners! Taking top honors for the non-integrated (all-male) divisions was Div. 941, and taking top honors for the integrated (male-female) divisions was Div. 265.

Does anyone know what determines if a Corpsman goes FMF or ship? Or base?
