No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

We took Southwest recently to Midway for PIR. One good thing about them is easy credits if price goes down. After we purchased our tickets, a couple of weeks later they had a sale. So we went and rescheduled our flights and got credit for the difference. We now have credits worth $120 for our next SWA flights. I don't think all of the other airlines are like that. All of our flights were a-ok, nothing to complain about. I'm 6'3" tall and southwest has better legroom than Virgin America big time. That's another plus for them. Thats my 2 cents.

you might have to do some research....for instance- I looked at Allegiantair at http://www.allegiantair.com/aaIndex.php as they have some downright inexpensive flights from Mesa, AZ to Bellingham, WA.....search for airports in your region and see what regional carriers might be there

mind you Southwest is open seating = join their Rapid Rewards Program to get a higher preference

Thanks guys, I did look at Southwest and found I would have to drive an hour and half to Raleigh, NC but upon looking at some others, it appears to still be the best deal. Just for kicks, I looked at Delta first class for two and it would be a mere $5,245. Tough decision there haha.

Here's a question, I've looked at all the "bundle and save" sites for flights and hotels and am not really impressed. The pamphlet I received with my son's form letter has some hotels with really good rates. That being said, has anyone found an airline that had rates lower than the others? I'm paying up for myself and my oldest son so ole Dad's wallet is gonna feel this one. Thanks ahead of time.
