No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Phil,
I just had to add that the grass actually is not green ANYWHERE around here. My son tells me that RTC is sepia toned as well. Note that this comment has nothing whatever to do with the area eateries.
Hey Bill....now is when having all of these folks really helps. The next couple of months are really tough and the support here is invaluable! The best of luck to your SR and family...Hold on for the ride! :)
I didn't mean to bash Flanagans. Was happy to watch the battle of the Sox there (Red vs. White) and was thinking that would be a great sports bar to have in the neighborhood. Groups of 6 get a free large pizza, I wish we had that where I live.
Just proving that the grass is always greener at the other place, since it wasn't a good turnout I would have tried Sarges. Turnout was probably low because last weeks' PIR was relatively smaller compared to other weeks.
My son is on his way to RTC today. Now all the tips, suggestions and stories become real to our family. Thanks to everyone on this site for helping us be better prepared.
No he did not eat fruit on a regular basis. Either the Navy has given him a new idea on healthy eating or he is so hungry anything looks good or, more likely, he likes the Navy food choices. He said the food was goodat RTC.
Just a random comment, kind of off the recent subjects. We have gotten a few letter from my son in week 6 at RTC. He has discovered that he is addicted to....fresh fruit! Who would have believed it. BS21 coming up then PIR. Can't wait.
