No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Our girl has been there for 6 weeks, we've been exchanging letters using the Ohio St. address.

She called us last Saturday and we all missed it! Luckily she got in touch with her granma and had somebody to talk to.

Yesterday my wife and I stayed home, hoping she would call and she did! Got to talk to her for 45 minutes, really made our day/weekend.

Getting ready to head out to PIR this week, can't wait to see her.

It's my understanding that some of the ships/barracks are having problems with the air conditioning. They moved all the SR from those ships.

OK now I confused. I got the form letter from my son with one address on it, 3500 Sailor Dr, and now received his first letter with another_ 3600 Ohio St. Does anyone know why or what is the right one?

Phil, we share your building excitement. Our son also will PIR on July 20. He is assigned to Ship 7, Div 225. We spoke to him on July 4th. He said they had tried on their dress uniforms earlier in the day. Hoo-Yah!

Got a letter from my son yesterday; it was mailed last Sunday. Latest news is that it looks like he may have qualified as a "Sharpshooter." Bravo-Zulu, Son! Also, he reports that his Division, the 215th, outscored everyone else on Drill performance. That means that they no longer have to march under the direction of a Recruit Division Commander (Drill Instructor). Again, Well Done 215th!! This coming week is Battle Stations, I think.

Hi V-

Our girl has been there for a month now, we are really looking forward to going to see the PIR 7/20! From what I've read, wait for her next letter which will have her mailing address. The recruiters don't always have the correct info.

I hope she gets to be part of the drill team, sounds like she is a great musician.

Good luck
