No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Phil....the cost of a rental for peace of mind....well worth it!

We are planning our trip to PIR. My wife and I have our flight to Midway for the day before and plan to take the trains to GL. Our 19 year old daughter is considering taking a late flight which would get to Midway late. I've been reading that the murder rate in Chicago has been climbing at an alarming rate and wonder how bad of an idea it would be for a 19 year old to be taking public transport late at night in Chicago. Or even us adults. I'm inclined to nix the idea or else we need to rent a car and meet her at the airport that night.
I do kind of need my hips...LOL
look at it this way and you'll be ok...you'll be a guest on an active military base and at any time you could be subject to screening.....don't tempt fate by trying to carry something onto the base that could cause a security alarm and everything would be fine
Thanks for those responding to me. Actually I am not concerned about airport security as I live about40 miles from GL. I was concerned about security on base and from what I am told that is not a worry.
Thanks again.
you do realize we have a series of Bootcamp videos as well
My son is on Ship 04 Div 817.PIR 7/27/12 Anyone else have a SR in that division?
