No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Got the letter today from my SR that was sworn in on June 6th (Chicago White Sox). I won't spoil the surprise for some of you, just another step closer to PIR.
As for the recruits that were being sworn in at the SOX game, pictures are also posted on the Naval Service Training Command face book page.
Robert...A week or so after a division has been formed and the RDCs have had a chance to preliminarily evaluate each of the recruits, they assign division leadership responsibilities to certain recruits. There sometimes seems to be no rhyme or reason to the way the assignments are made, but in general, division leaders are those recruits that in the opinion of the RDC have their act together. Recruit division leaders are identified by the collar device they wear...RCPO, RPO1, RPO2, RPO3. For full information on this, seach this site or the RDC web site. Also see the link above labeled Recruit Division Command Structure. Hope this helps answer your question.
For those who had sons sworn in at the White Sox game on June 5 or for any other interested parties here is a brief video of the event put out by the White Sox. We were at this event for my son and it was really great that the Sox have been doing this for years. As you can see from the video it was a GREAT night. Except for the Sox!
Craig - I'm going to PIR so we'll see, depends on when he leaves and what flight he's on. The Sailors sort of dribble into Pcola, and most go to NAS. I don't have to tell you how few CT's there are going to Corry.
BillG - Not sure if you're going to PIR. So I don't know if you will make it back to P-cola before him, But if you do, I'd meet him on the concourse at the P-cola airport. You fall into the TSA rule to meet the plane since he now is a sailor!

I do beleive that he needs to be on that bus with his shipmates, but it doesn't mean you can greet him and have a soda or meal at the USO. I know I would... But he needs to bond with the others and that bus ride does that....
Frankly, I'm also worried if you did take him, that you'd might veer off and take him to "Sammy's" now that he's a sailor ~ha....
Go here for TSA:

and read the para called: Accommodations For U.S. Military Personnel
Jim - So many sailor just don't know how to do a travel claim, and they screw themselves out of a lot of money
Here is the official Army version, which is the same rules the Navy must follow (since all service fall under the joint service regulations).
I'd post this....

Look at para 1-19...
This is also good....

Craig - That's what I was thinking, but I didn't want to go against protocol.
