No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Jonathan, my son is excited too and ready to go. Where are you from? How long has your son been waiting? We have been waiting since December 2011, but my son was finishing  school. Are you going to the game?

Comment by Jonathan Cooper on May 9, 2012 at 12:27pm

My son will be sworn in that night.  Looking forward to it. Not quite as much as he is though.  Not so much the game but finally moving forward.

Anyones daughter or son being sworn in at the Chicago Whitesox game on June 5th?

My son PIR'ed on 4/27.  My wife sent him letters almost every day.  I sent him letters each week crammed with as much sports info as possible.  He said he would draw a crowd around his rack when the letters  arrived because everyone was starved for sports info.  Actually helped pass time and bring division together.

It's ok to send the sports page of all the box scores to them. We send this everyday and our SR enjoys this alot. He shares this info with all the others and of course they have fun ribbing each other for their favorite team.

It's funny you all mention scores as a morale booster for your recruit.  The same thing was talked about in a Navy Moms forum my wife is a part of.  Giving support to your recruit with positive and fun things to help them along.  My daughter is a Red Sox fan, so my plan was to slip her some scores of the games since she left for Great Lakes on 29th April (although now I'm leery of doing that.  Her Sox have not done well in the last 10 days).

Ship 12 Div. 186 PIR 6/15/12 anyone heard anything from this group yet? Just checking, hopeing to hear from my son soon and see how he is holding up. His A school is for OS right after boot. hope he is in boot with someone going to same school. May Fair Winds and Following seas greet all of our sailors throughout thier careers. :)

David,

My son graduates 11 May from BC. It is an interesting journey for the recruit and your observation will be through letters received weekly. My son wanted updates of sports. I was glad to provide this information while telling him how proud I am, and how important service to his country is. Any motivation you can pass on will be appreciated. Your letters will mean more than you know. Best of luck to you and your recruit.

Still awaiting the first form letter from the RTC with our daughter's tentative PIR date.  Her box with what she brought to Great Lakes was on our doorstep last Friday.
