No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Jonathan:  You might speak with the recruiter.  He should have details.  We saw several hundred for all the services sworn in at halftime of an Arena Football League game a couple years ago.  There wasn't a dry eye in the place when they finished their pledge.

My son will be sworn in at a White Sox game before going to GL on June 5th.  That is all I know.  Does anyone have details of how family can get tickets etc.  I have heard there is a special rate but I can't seem to get any details from my son or his dep office.  Anybody have a future sailor going in at the sox game and can help?

My son will be shipping out on July 2nd 2012. Anyone else has a son or daughter that will ship out that day? Would like to hear of anyone else shipping that day.

I just got home from my son's PIR.  It was great. A very special day.  My sons division was the performance division and they played great (924, a Captain's Cup winner too).  Wish we could have had more time with our son, but we had to get back home, but so glad we made it, even though it was a short time.  Thanks for all the advise from all the Navy dads out there.

Congratulations to this week's Captain's Cup winners! Taking top honors for the non-integrated (all-male) divisions was Div. 811, and taking top honors for the integrated (male-female) divisions was Div. 139.

I asked my son the question as he is waiting to "class up". They don't use personal computers for any school work. They can use them however when they are on liberty to do school related research. My son is a Gunners Mate and has been learning about Ohms Law (electricity) while he is on liberty. Ans as Jim said, they do need something to distract them on free time.

Will the boys need a computer for A school?  And if so, does he need his own laptop or are there computers available?  We worry that his own laptop will end up being a distraction with facebook and scyping his girlfriend etc.

Congratulations to this week's Captain's Cup winner! Taking top honors for the non-integrated divisions was Div. 127, and taking top honors for the integrated divisions was Div. 924.

Thanks to Paul, Jim Todd & Scout 1910 for some great info!! Really helpful.  My wife wanted to know if there was a place we are allowed to go and but souvenirs - t-shirts & stuff?

Hey Scott, I you want to see your son perform in the band during his PIR, be sure to sit on the Right side of the VIP stand. That's your right facing the floor. We sat in the 910 section back in January left of the VIP stand and never were able to see our son until the after the ceremony. The VIP stand sits up and out, blocking your view. I thought that you might want to know.
