No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Thank you Navy for Dads! My son's PIR was on Friday, April 13, 2012. The information has been outstanding. To those of you with the road ahead it really does get easier, hang in there it really does get easier.

Thanks for all the feedback. I was in boot camp 30 years ago and remember well the lucky few that were made examples of LOL. So I wasnt sure if pictures were a good idea or not. Inserting them into the text of a letter is a great idea. Just something to make my son smile :). "A picture is worth a thousand words", right?

Thanks again

Yes, we also printed pictures (new ones, showing things our daughter had not seen yet) within the typed letter (using Word).  If you send separately, the recruits sometimes have to do a show-and-tell, pass the pictures around, etc.  It is like sending a box of cookies, they may only have crumbs left when they return.  In a printed letter, there won't be any questions or "examples" made of the recruit.

Bob, from I what have heard, and what I did, I embedded the photos right into my letter on word.  Then I printed them out with the letter and sent it that way.  I heard that if you send actual Photos, sometime's the RDC's will "share" them with the division.  LOL

I thought of sending some real good pics of him as a child, but I am too nice to do that I guess...LOL

He said that he did enjoy getting the pics and he did share them with his division, and they didn't believe it was him...LOL

I hope some of this helps....Have a great day....

Bob, from what I've seen on here, they can have a few small photos.

Does anyone know, can the recruits receive a few photo's while in bootcamp?

Congratulations to this week's Captain's Cup winners! Taking top honors for the integrated divisions was Div. 117, and taking top honors for the non-integrated divisions was Div. 119.

Check out my updated profile picture. When I returned from my son's PIR on 4/6/12. I brought a Navy Flag to display in my yard. My son's dog now continues to sleep next to the flag. She has never slept in this spot before. This is werid. It's amazing how dogs know and sense certain things. I just had to share this. Thanks. Go Navy!

Thank you Navy Dads! I just got back from Great Lakes. PIR of 4/6/12, was awesome and I am so proud of the U.S. Navy and my son. Many thanks to this web site and also to Sarge who was immensly helpful for his taxi services and his Meet and Greet. Hooyah!!! To all the other parents who have recruits at Great Lakes or are ready to leave. WRITE EVERYDAY to your recruit, it's so important to them. Boot Camp is no picnic for them and they NEED your support to get them through.
