No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Ship 12 Div 122
Daughter in law just got a call from my son a little while ago. 1800 GL time. He sounded tired, but doing fine. They talked she said around 5 min. Talking really fast. This is about the halfway point, PIR 4-13
Just got the "I'm a sailor call", as my son got to put on his Navy ballcap this morning, Ship 12 Div 094. A bit longer call this time, which I am thankful for. We're already packed and ready to fly to Chicago in a couple of days for PIR on Friday.
For those of you still waiting for contact from your SR, we didn't get a letter back until his 4th week, and we got five of them at once. A total of 11 letters from him over his whole stay at RTC. Not bad for a young man who I didn't think would write often.
We didn't receive our first call from him until after his 5th week. My wife got a short call from him yesterday, and then the call today.
So, contact can be few and far between, but keep writing your SR. They are getting your letters (just maybe not in order). We continually let our son know just how proud we were of him and his decision to serve his country. He seemed very appreciative of any advice I gave him, even though it's been 30 years since I was in the service, and a lot has changed.
I am now a proud Navy Dad. Thank you to this forum! I found many answers here, and plan on sticking around as my son moves on to A School, C School, and finally the fleet.
please remember one thing.....your kids are living the Navy 24/7 and when they comm with home they really don't want to have to talk about the Navy that much......cut them some slack and if they mention Navy stuff, fine- run with it, but I would not go out of my way to ask a zillion questions about what they are eating, wearing, sleeping in, learning, getting extra PT about, mastering, qualifiying, getting yelled at about, feeling down about, feeling happy about, etc., etc.. They will fill you in eventually........

IT WAS GREAT!!! Like Phillip said, Sarge was a God-send. If you're prior Navy, you can stand proud and loud singing the Navy theme. They even put up the words on the screen. And don't forget that you can salute the flag in civilian clothes if you are a veteran. My sailor now at Ft. Sam Houston (home) for Corpsman training. Then "C" school.
Hooyah Navy Dads! It's been a while since I have checked in, but I've been reading and following the groups - especially this group - with great regularity. My son's A School graduation anniversary is the 17th, and his one year on the job as an MA will pass on April 1st. It was just over a year ago that I turned to this website as an emotional lifeline and for information. It was a great comfort, and source of information and I can see that still holds true. This site has a great bunch of vets and new recruits, and it works so well. Congratulations to the parents of the most recently minted shiny new sailors. Bravo zulu, and good luck!
Vincent - Outstanding! Thank-you.... I hate repeating myself, but it's people like you that can provide soooo much better info since you just went through it. People need to hear the good, along with the bad. It's what makes a forum website run.
There will be dads that need help. Only a guy can understand a guy. Thanks again for staying and providing help to the new dads.
