No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Congratulations to your son on a job well done. Please give him a thank you from me, my son Nicholas and I am sure from the other NAVY mom's and dad's on this site. May he have a terrific career in the NAVY.

Gary,
It was fun reading your update on Nicholas!!! It sounds like he's doing well and moving right along with the whole boot camp process. My son, Billy also had his wisdom teeth pulled during the 3rd week of BC and was given a couple of days SIQ to recover. The bad part was that when he and some other sailors were taken to have their teeth pulled, the rest of their division got to make phone calls home. Another week passed before Billy got to make his call. He was not too happy!
That wasn't a very fun way for Nicholas to spend his birthday! Maybe you all can celebrate together after his PIR!
Enjoy your phone call when it comes!! If you're like me you'll be so excited when he calls that you will forget most of the questions you wanted to ask him.
I'm wishing Nicholas continued success!!!

Mail call #1. My son Nicholas received his first mail on Feb 1st. The beginning of what he calls his official week 3 or 03 week seems to be the lucky number for Division 115 Ship 14.

In his 3rd letter home he says his military experience is OK. First day P-week 01/13/09 at boot was tough up for 48 hours. Shots hurt, and then on the 28th he gave back to the NAVY, he let the dentist pull his wisdom teeth. Didn't say if they let him put them under his pillow for the tooth fairy. They did give him magic medication and let him sleep the whole day of the 29th which was his 21st birthday.

He passed his swimming test, said thanks to his NAVY haircut, it made him more like a hydroplane. His division will be taking there 1st test on Tuesday (yesterday) re: 1st aid, ships, rank and so on. He said sleep is a minimum, they have to wake up for watch, to iron cloths or shine shoes.

Finally the weeks are going by faster and the best news of all is this Thursday of 03 week he was told they will be allowed to call home. Mother was happy to hear the news.

Hello to all ! Last week my son was aloud to call home and I missed his call. I was so bummed out, I could not stop thinking about him! I can't wait to see him!!! We are busy making plans for the PIR.
