No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny
Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.
RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Does anyone know at what point recruits are able to send and receive mail? I've heard after 4 weeks and I've heard 2 weeks.

Congratulations everyone on your new sailors.My son is into his third week of bootcamp.He's in Div. 109,looking forward to hearing something more from him soon.

That's great Robert! You're going be impressed with PIR! Just remember that it may take A WHILE to class up in Pensacola....they won't start some classes until there are enough sailors to fill it and some of the rates fill pretty slowly. Your sailor might get to know the controls of a mop pretty well!!

I just got the call I have been waiting for. My son pasted Battlestations and is now a Sailor! In fact, the entire Division 080 passed. As Lee’s son said, he can not wait to leave G.L. and get to Pensacola. He said he has Captain’s Cup Competition tomorrow and then an easy week until 1/30/09 PIR. We are fortunate that we have found out a week ahead of time.

Lee Congrats! We recently got home from GL, our sons PIR was 1/9/09. We got our call that he had passed battlestations about 12 hours into our 14 hr. drive up there from SC. I think when that big door opened up and I heard his division number called was one of the proudest moments I have ever experienced. Have a safe trip!!

It seems like it has been ages, but we leave for GL tomorrow morning! Kevin will PIR on Friday the 23rd. We got our call this afternoon that he passed Battlestations around 7am today. The first thing out of his mouth was, "Dad, I'm a sailor!!" You could hear the pride in his voice as well as the fact he was exhausted. He said he thinks he had been up about 24 hours and he was glad bootcamp was finally over. He is very happy to be leaving Gl and heading off to Pensacola on Sunday. Will anyone else be at GL on the 23rd?
