No More "Sailor in a Box" - From RTC- Posted 5 Sept 2019

Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

We talk about Holiday Routine at Boot Camp - here's the skinny

Sunday/Holiday Routine allows recruits to attend religious services and observe Federal holidays. From 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. recruits are able to: attend religious services, read and study, hygiene, perform uniform upkeep, write and read letters, or clean their rack and personal locker.

Important RTC/PIR Changes

RTC is making important changes to polices regarding PIR Guest Access as well as Bag Checks and Restriction Policies. Take the time to read thru these and be prepared when you head to Great Lakes for PIR.

Greetings to All - my son left today for boot. Still waiting on the phone call. He should be in GL by now, but I know that he is busy, since I went though the same about 28 years ago. I am just glad that there is an internet now and support network for parents. Now I know what my parents must have gone through. Momma is in the other room writing him a letter already, just need the mailing info. The photo is of our son, I mean sailor and his friend from HS. They both left today.

Oh yeah I got a 5 page letter today. This letter was dated 11/14, so he wrote it before I spoke to him on the phone the 21st. He said they may be switching his A school around and he wont know if it will be Pensicola, Norfolk or Washington now till week 6 or 7. Were in week 6 now and I assume he must know if all arrangements have to be set by Dec 8th. He said he thought he was going to buy a plane ticket to a school. He said he ordered his dress blues and whites and three sets of camies. He must be getting E3 because he said they are putting the 3 green stripes on his uniform right now. He also said he is no longer a sound sleeper and that he hears all the noises now- he thought I would laugh at that because he could sleep thru a hurricane before. He asked me to hold off on mail because he is running out of space too and that he feels bad that he gets mail everyday and still there are some that dont get any.He is also the Petty Officer for weapons

It's ok For Dad's to cry for their son's, I cry for my daughter in the car drivin' to work! Yet I'm proud of her! Look at the BC videos. It helps to know what they are going through & will learn in the next 6-8 weeks

Good morning everyone. I have 13 days left till my son leaves for GL. I get sadder by the day yet so very excited for him and his future! I swear I have cried everyday for the last 2 weeks or more. I'm glad to know you all are here!

Rick - I was right where you are a couple short weeks ago. I can tell you - it gets easier each day. We didn't get the "safe arrival" call so we had to call the recruiter the day after Danny left (11/4) just to confirm he arrived at GL safely. Honestly, when we got "the box" it was a relief cause we could see his handwriting on it. Then we got the form letter with 3 lines he wrote and that was like a bucket of gold to us. Then the first letter arrived....and finally the next...and last night we got our first phone call and it was wonderful. We will always remember the pain of that first few days - it helps a lot to write to him as soon as you have an address, and to keep linked in on this site and Navyformoms.com. These are terrific forums of "like minded" parents. You and your family are in our prayers. What's your sons (first) name? Glen
