Let's Have a Clearing House for Care Package Ideas and Addresses

Many of us send care packages to our sons and daughters scattered around the globe. Often we would like to do more....

I thought we might use this space to develop ideas of things to ship to our troops protecting our freedom. Also we might look at setting up a list of addresses that we could use to ship to. It is Girl Scout cookie season and I know one of our members sends cookies to troops all over. I've sent phone cards to combat areas through the USO so our soldiers could call home for the holidays. I'm sure there are hundreds of ideas out there....lets support our troops by sending them the things from home they miss and to let them them know that America supports them.

I've had some requests for the care package label template:

Updated (7 Sept 2013)!! here is the Microsoft Publisher template- Avery 5163 label:

I made this up pretty fast but everything I send now will have something like this stuck to it:

Gary- you are on track....I've sent a ton of magazines to Eric to share in the shop....I know a group of guys will share those and they have recieved their share of car, bike, chopper, 4x4, hunting, gun, hotrod, sports, fishing, and muscle car mags. I've also sent a number of books- Eric had asked for Twain, Orwell, some history, etc. etc.. I've told him to read, share, and donate to the ship's library when through. You just have to remember that space is limited and while I'd love to send a small fridge that looks like a Craftsman tool chest (genuinehotrod.com) it ain't gonna fit!!!!!!! Also-- must be in good taste!!!

That's awesome Paul. Navy Dads Foundation is something in this site's future to help our Troops. I think I have found our first President!

I may be out in left field with this one, but how about sending reading material, paper back novels. We all have great readings we buy, read once and discard. My wife and I have many like new books which I am sure many troops would enjoy. Having never been on a naval ship, I have no idea if they have a library.

And I know I'm going to develop a Word label template to print some kind of "supported by NavyDads.com" label on the items I send out. I have the logo, the wordprocessor, the printer and the mailing labels...what could be easier!! And a way to spread the word about NavyDads too!

That first response was directed about my son's care packages but Paul you have a great idea. We should come up with something to do our part.

I know I've sent my share of care packages to my two sailors over the past couple of years. Eric and Kat both asked for Arizona picante sauce to spice up otherwise dull carrier food.

Thanks to Paige I'm reminded that it is Girl Scout cookie season.....I think I'll buy several cases this year and have them shipped to my sailor's workareas (Media and Tire/Wheel) to share. So come on NavyDads members....lets spread the word and support our troops with goodies from home!

A popular care package I've become familiar with is Western Union. Anybody else?
