A team from the Navy Unmanned Combat Air System program office (PMA-268) accomplished the first carrier touchdown of an F/A-18D surrogate aircraft, emulating an unmanned vehicle, using systems developed as part of the Unmanned Combat Air System Carrier Demonstration (UCAS-D) program on July 2. http://www.navy.mil/search /display.asp?story_id=61420

Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus announced today the next Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier will be named the USS John F. Kennedy. The selection John F. Kennedy, designated CVN 79, honors the 35th President of the United States and pays tribute to his service in the Navy, in the government, and to the nation.

Good morning and Happy Easter weekend to all. My son after almost two years since he left for bootcamp has graduated from Naval Nuclear Power School and Prototype. YEAH! I am flying to New York on Wed. to see his finial graduation (besides PIR this will be 3rd  graduation I've attended) and pack his stuff and bring him and it home for his 30 days leave then on to the USS Nimitz in Washington. Yeah, we will once again be in the same time zone and close enough for a visit once in awhile maybe. He is an EM3. His boat is in dry dock until end of year (or longer, who knows for sure, this is the Navy) but he's glad to be finished with his school and on to next step of this adventure. He joined the Navy and I get to see the USA. A great trade off. Chicago, IL Charleston SC, Saratoga Springs, NY and now Seattle area, WA. Drove his car to him in SC so got to see the US along I-40 and now across the US on I-80 or I-90, depends on what he wants to visit on way home and weather. He loves the Navy so far and I love what's it done for him. I'm a very PROUD parent as I'm sure you all understand.
