Navy Dads

My son graduated boot camp February 12, 2010 and is waiting for his A school for corpsman training at G L.to begin in a couple of weeks. I'm handling his finances for the time being at home. We have not received his W2 forms so I can prepare his taxes. Does the Navy send this to his previous address? How may I obtain a copy?

They may only be available on line.

He should be able to print off a copy or provide you with access.

There's a website that the Corpsmen have access to. My son gave me his info so I could go in and print out what I needed for his tax returns. Also, Turbotax has free federal returns if you interested? Just an fyi... That's what we used for our son this year. Hope this helps.
All U.S. military forces use an online pay system. He will be issued Department of Defense MyPay login credentials. From his MyPay account he will be able to access his Leave and Earnings Statements and W-2's. So, in January of 2011, he will be able to access and print his W-2. He will also be able to save it as a PDF.

May I offer a word of caution? Do not let your son email the W-2 as an attachment to a regular email. Regular emails are kind of like post cards and the computer systems they route through are like post offices. So any nosy system administrator (think postal clerk) can read your son's email as it passes through their computer system. That means all the information somebody needs to commit identity theft is floating around in cyber space for a lot of people to see! Either use a secure email service or have him print the statement and mail it to you the old fashioned way.
