Our sons are in the right business! My son said the hardest part for him was not laughing when they berated him and tried to bring him down. It ended up seeming very funny to him after enough of it!

My son had played lacrosse and ice hockey in school and then the 3 months leading up to boot, he signed on with a personal trainer. He said the Petty Officers used to get upset because they couldn't get to him physically, so they tried mentally. After about 3 weeks, they just stopped busting him because he put on an attitude that he was enjoying it. Mind games work both ways.

My son said that same thing - the hardest part was the lack of sleep and the yelling. That is the military way to break you down and then build you up the way they need you to be........they are good at it. But physically, as Bruce mentioned - if you trained for a sport or are in decent shape you will be fine.

Ours said the same - if you have trained for a sport. You will make it just fine.

My son felt the same as Roberts. He was in football also. He thought it was easy, but he was missing San Diego and his friends. Don't take anything personal is exactly what he had told me about Boot Camp. Guess there is a lot to learn from each other. Cool we can let new people know what is coming.

Welcom Robert
My son was disappointed in boot camp he felt it wasn't tough enough. He said football practice was tougher. The thing he had to get used to was getting up in the middle of the night to iron. Like GP said tell your son don't take anything personal. The hardest part I've found to deal with is everything changes at will for no ryhme or reason ( Time wise), at boot camp and A school, power school, and prototype.

Robert...Welcome aboard! The best advice I can give you for your son is what my son told me. Boot Camp is nothing but mind games. Stay focused, do what you are told, and take nothing personally. The first week is a big adjustment (not having any freedom at all). After that, it was a piece of cake. Jeff and Sheryl, my son also is going to work with his recruiter when he is home. He figured he would work with him while his mother and I were working and then be home during the evening. Great deal both ways.

Yes, I didn't mean to make it sound worse than it is, it is just that the looks on their faces as they are trying to be tough and be a man is heartbreaking for a Mom at Boot Camp. Yet makes you proud. To see her young son like that is hard. I guess it is the Mom's perspective you are getting from me.

Welcome - both my sons did not find boot camp that difficult. My oldest is now ready to head back because his officers package was accepted so he will go to OCS bootcamp. They found it challenging but not bad. Their mindset was "keep your head down" and "excel" where you can. And they went through it just fine. So let your wife know : ) Now that was a whole different story : )

Welcome! The Boot Camp thing is very hard for everyone. Your son will need as many letters as you can send!! Start sending them a week before he leaves and he may get them a week in! But you can't. You have to wait for him to send the address, and then it takes awhile for the first ones to get there. So I wrote one every day after he left and when I got the address I sent them and it meant everything to him Mom. And for him to even get the chance to write back takes a month. SO expect no communication for a month or so and then only a few calls before he graduates. He needs your support so you must write! They are very very homesick at this time. You also need to find a way to be at graduation from Boot Camp. It means so much to them for you to be there and be proud of them and to have family, not Navy only. You are too funny about "developing a personality" for you wife!! You do that!! She will need it. Just support her and her tears. They will come. Welcome and the good part is our sons become men and understand what our country is made of and they are made of. Congratulations! God Bless you and your family and welcome.
