Robert D. I know what you mean by seeing him aftere BC. It's strange how we have them home all those years and don't notice the all the little changes as they grow and then BAM! 8 weeks at BC and they are a totally different person.

Robert and Dennis, in general for security purposes it is not a good idea to use last names on sites like this and Navy 4 Moms. This is easy to change. Just a thought to keep in mind.

Robert: Give him a day or two to settle in. He should be able to give you a call with his address. Does he have a cell phone and/or laptop? My son called us 3 days after he arrived in SC and we shipped him his cell phone and laptop. He now calls us once or twice a week and usually sends about 3 ro 4 e-mails a week also. He finds the e-mails are better because with all the studying, they really don't have much time to talk. We noticed that most of his messages are sent after 10:00 pm so we reply to him the next morning. Anything urgent, he gives us a call in the evening. If you get with him over the weekend, you should be able to hand him his cell or laptop. The only thing with the laptop was that he will have to sign up with a local carrier for internet access. I think my son is paying $30 a month.

Dan reported for his first duty on a carrier yesterday in Norfolk, VA. He is ready to see what his duties will be since his carrier is dry docked for 40 months. He isn't to exited about that, he really wanted to travel.

Dennis: Mike K's comments are correct. Especially about sending packages. Your son would normally get a notice that a package has arrived for him and then can pick it up the next day. But it is better for him to jus go in and check as sometimes they can give it to him then. I know a package for my son sat there for 3 days before he could get it.

Dennis, as I understand it, A school for MMs is about 3 months long so you can get an approximate graduation time from that. From what I understand is that the base basically closes down for the Christmas holiday. There are still watches to man thus who, and for how long leaves will be over the holiday is up in the air. That is about as much as I know. There are three blogs near the top of the page on the Nuke Moms site on Navy 4 Moms that are very informative about the three schools. From what we know, yes, mail is slow down there, especially if it is a package. Always let your sailor know if you are sending them something as they need to go to a mail room to pick it up.
