Navy Dads

Many years ago I had an opportunity to visit the Naval Aviation museum. It was excellent! Definitely worth a few hours of your time when you go to visit your sailor.
Also, Lambert's Cafe is a fun restaurant about 30 minutes away, in Foley, AL. We got huge portions of great food for a good price, in a building that resembles the Cracker Barrel chain. It's called"the home of the throwed roll" for good reason...

My wife and I and our 2 other sons went from New York to Pensacola to visit our sailor Chris last week. It was great seeing Chris and as he had phase 3 liberty he was able to spend the evenings until about 11 PM and the entire weekend with us. Pensacola was nice, but the recession seems to have the town hard because there were lots of houses for sale, I assume in foreclosure, and while our hotel (The Portofino Resort in Gulf Breeze) was right on the beach and had first class accommodations and amenities, by New York standards it was extremely inexpensive. We had a beautiful 14th floor 3 bedroom condo with a full kitchen and a giant wraparound balcony for $290 per night for the 5 of us. Also, they gave us 30% off all food, a free round of golf and free deep sea fishing so they must be hurting. I know that's still expensive for a lot of folks, but they also have 1 and 2 bedroom units for much less. Anyway, it was a great trip and we all can't wait to see Chris again!
Just returned from P'cola to see my son graduate from A school. Stayed at the Navy Lodge on the main base. The hotel was OK, but the prices were about 30% to 50% less than other hotels in the area, plus you are across the street from the Naval Aviation Museum and the hotel is on the water with a great beach. Some rules apply and you have to go through a specific process, but it is convenient for both the main base and Corry Station. We ate at Maguire's downtown (great Irish pub) and Yamato's near Corry Station. Both excellent. Also, if you get a chance drive over to Mobile to see Battleship Park. USS Alabams is on display and you can take a self-conducted tour. Worth the drive.
Did anyone stop by the Florabama bar? Used to be a building but it got blew away a few years back so now it looks like a bunch of pole barns put together
