Navy Dads

My son returned to NAS Pensacola yesterday.  Reluctantly, he packed and was not ready at all to go back.  Very hard day for him. Currently, he is in phase II now and has more freedom, but the waiting and not really having a schedule has zapped his enthusiasm.  His motivation is not there.  He is rescue swimmer candidate and waiting has never been easy for him.

Has anyone else out there experienced this with their sailor?  I'm really concerned about him.  He's not one to share so Im sure he's not discussed this with the other guys.

Does anyone know of a mentor or soundingboard for these guys that are struggling?

Thanks for any advice.

You should talk to Brad. His son Garret is a Rescue Swimmer. He could really give you some great advice.

Go under Members and type in Brad and the one with the Dad and son together in the photo is the Brad I am talking about. Good luck!

Riffpodge, it's not unusual for things to come to a grinding halt in A school. There are many factors her to consider. We just had Christmas and New Year holiday breaks. The instructors and all the training personnel take their leave like any other sailor. The sailors that are in A school just have to wait it out till things start up. You have probably also head the term "hurry up and wait." It still rings true today. When my son got to Pensacola, it was many weeks before NACCS started. Then he had to wait again for weeks for Aircrew A school to start.

If and when you talk to your son, just tell him to try to stay busy. He can volunteer for yard detail, trash detail, there's always cleaning to do, standing watch, etc...

Bottom line is that the Navy will get him through school, but will do it in their time.

Good luck and hang in there.

Jim
