Our VINSON Idol competitors performed on the stage to conclude the Steel Beach.  Before the day we had three male and female competitors--by the end we were down to four total.  The talent on the ship is quite impressive and the voting was close.  Unlike the real show, many of the competitors on VINSON Idol end up singing background vocals for each other.  They have truly enjoyed the spirit of the competition and haven't taken themselves or the rivalry too seriously.

Tom and Byron/Tyler's GP  Thank you for responding to me.  It is funny 23 years ago I was stationed in Korea and I can only imagine now how my parents worried.  My son is very confident and independent.  I know he will be fine, but obviously it is great to know that he can communicate with us while he is on the ship.  He has not called us yet, but I am sure it is because he is busy getting oriented.  Thanks for welcoming me.

Hey greg, Tom is right on all counts, especially the Captain's corner,Capt. Thomas I think is the best Captain in the Navy, he is infornitive, spends lots of time with all his crew, but most important he really keeps parent's up to date on all our kid's their jobs, and just about every thing else as well, one fantastic guy.I chat with my grandson almost every single day on face book chat line and e-mail. Also from time to time he Skype's me once in a while, Grandma and I really get excited when he Skype's us because we get to see him as well as talk with him. Try not to worry to musch about our kids, they really have the best Captain, I believe in the navyand he is the third one since Tyler has been aboard the USS Carl Vinson. Hope you have great communication's, I know I certainly have, you don't worry quite as much when you can stay in touch, My big guy come's home for good June 13th 2015,I will be so glad to have him home for good, but I am very proud of him for the time he has spent serving his country. Good luck to up Greg. Fell free any time with question's,alway's glad to help, I know I have always had plenty of people who have wanted to help new comer's. Also all of the Administrator's on navyfordads are great guy's as well and always ready to help any one with questions.

Welcome Greg! I would guess that he will be aboard within a few days. They use e-mail and social media as well as payphones on board to talk to home. I would imagine that any orientation will be given once he has met the ship. Here is a link for you to check out. Capt. Thomas does a regular posting to keep the folks at home abreast of what they are up to...
