you will be sending lots of care packages------I was reading through past posts in the Care Package group and ran across something my daughter sent me in '09:

I think every shop I've ever been to on a shoot has had a coffee maker. There's a joke that all a sailor needs to look like their in charge is a coffee mug and a bad attitude. Or something. I know everyone would love coffee and in my experience any type of flavored creamer (powdered for easy shipping) french vanilla is usually the most popular flavor. Any type of sweets go over well. That box of biscotti you sent me went like retarded fast. I don't know about other ships but we had pallates of girl scout cookies on the ship on deployment. But it would all be appreciated.

What?....LOL!

Forgot to ask but does anyone know if he can get ear protection on the ship? I'm not sure if I should send him some since he mentioned before that he watches the jets during his time off and that it gets loud.
Thanks.

in general, care packages take about 2-3 weeks when deployed....and don't think you are the only ones sending packages....somewhere on the site I have a picture of a carrier receiving 70,000 pounds of mail.......yeah......70,000 pounds !!!!!!!!

We sent a package on Monday the 25th. I'm curious about transit time as well. Hopefully we filled everything out correctly.
We received another email and his spirits are high. Says he's been working his a$$ off and that he's gained 19 lbs since his boot camp weight back in February and feels good. He's always been really thin but now he works out regularly and eats real food instead of junk food so he's starting to gain some muscle mass instead of just being skin and bones lol.
Ken, happy birthday to your son. Hopefully he can get some time to enjoy something sweet to eat.

Hi Byron
We'll stay in touch about the packages' arrival date.
He turns 22 tomorrow and I'll be sending him another email.

I sent a Birthday package 2 days ago from Chicago, it apparently left Nashville tonight. We'll how long it takes to get to him and I'll post it

I received a long e-mail from my son on 8/24. He was awed by the fighters taking off and landing, finds his hours and watches reasonable so far, because there's no commuting time. No seasickness, and the ship rocks him to sleep. I guess he tells me what I want to hear, but at least no distress signals. I'm so proud of him, and grateful to all your sons and daughters for their service.
