Hi Chuck. Yesterday Stephen sent me a text and a picture of a P-8. He said he had just come back from a flight and there was on parked right next to the Squadron's hanger. He deploys one more time in late November in the P-3, then when he gets…

Was not quit able to pull the trip off as a surprise.  Andrew's squadron was very helpful and one of Andrew's friends graciously shared their home with me.  The trip was a whirlwind, but was worth every minute. I am…

He's home! Well, in Jax anyway. His plane landed about 0500 on Wed. There is one picture of him and his wife, Ashley that was posted on the VP-45 web site that I put on my page. They had all kinds of welcome home stuff in the hanger.

I hope you get to spend some time with Stephen and his bride at least over the holidays.  The cabin sounds like a nice place to be away from things military for a while.

Hello Chuck! How's Andrew getting along? Still in HI? Stephen gets to come home before Christmas. He really still doesn't talk much on line to us, but I think he has finally passed his boards. It took so long because the board…

Stephen is really happy to be home. He and his wife are in Pigeon Forge, TN taking the honey moon they never got. After about a week of getting over the jet lag, he finally called me and we talked for an hour about some of the things he saw and did over there. Pretty amazing! He said the Navy has added one more year to his enlistment because of the P-8. Also, he goes back out on deployment in 12 months and not the 18 as first expected. Other than that, he's doing well! Have a Merry Christmas!

Hello Chuck! How's Andrew getting along? Still in HI? Stephen gets to come home before Christmas. He really still doesn't talk much on line to us, but I think he has finally passed his boards. It took so long because the board couldn't convene because of all the chiefs were flying so much. So I think he'll get his wings once he's home in Jax. Then his wife and him are going on the honeymoon they never really got. They rented a cabin in Pigeon Forge, TN.

Sorry it took me so long Chuck. I finally read the story on the P-8. Pretty darn cool. Looks like the P-8 is going to be a formidable weapons platform as well as surveillance. Stephen told me he will be on two deployments before he sees the inside of one.

She has really enjoyed her time in Hawaii and has a lot of new military and civilian friends there now. We went to visit her over Easter and had a wonderful time. She leaves next weekend for a 12 month deployment of which 9 months will be in Afganastan. Goes to San Deigo first for a couple of weeks of advanced trauma training and then to San Antonio for additional training for 2 weeks and then to Camp Atterbury, IN to train with the Army PRT (Provincial Reconstruction Team) that she will be deployed with to Afganastan the first of February. She will get a week off at Christmas and will be able to come home and see us then. She will be stationed back in Hawaii in the fall of 2012 and is keeping her place there and is subleting to a friend until she gets back. One of her OCS classmates is deploying at the same time so they will go thru all the training together which will be nice for them both. She is a little aprehensive as are we but also excited about the next 12 months and what it will bring.

Thanks for the link Chuck. Stephen says that most of the AWs are skeptical about the P-8 capabilities. Flies too fast, can't fly at lower altitudes, etc... I think it's about time that the P-3 is replaced. I'm sure that they will adapt to the new jets. I say to them, it's time to move forward and get out of the dark ages!

Kind of ironic, from what i hear and remember, training excercises for them can be pretty tough, but i think it's more of a compliment to the Sub force than a ding on the Sub hunters.....
