Ted Beinecke commented on NavyDads Admin (Paul)'s group 'Care Packages for Our Military'
Merry Christmas all! We just got back from an awesome visit with Chris in Norfolk where he works aboard the USS San Antonio (LPD-17). His ship on the same pier with the USS Bainbridge and after he took us for a tour of the San Antonio, an amazing…

Ted Beinecke commented on Navydads co-admin (Terry)'s group 'Prayer Requests Room'
Our prayers go out to all of our sailors in the Norfolk-Newport News area. Our sailor Chris is stationed there and he was lucky enough to get a flight out this morning for weekend leave at home. He says the wind and rain have been unbelievable there…

Ted Beinecke commented on Luis's group 'Navy Dads & Moms who happen to be Rush Babies.'
Tim, my son’s friends didn’t give him any grief about joining the military either; quite the opposite actually, they were very encouraging and helpful to him in making the decision. It was probably because most of them are cops and…

Profile Information

My Sailor's first name (do not post SEAL names):
Chris
Describe a little about yourself:
I’m a 57 year-old, semi-retired businessman who ran an Internet company for many years but who never had the privilege of serving his country in the military. For over 20 years, however, I’ve been involved with a non-profit organization that promotes veteran’s rights and which each year acknowledges an outstanding veteran with an award for his service and a luncheon in his honor.
What brought you to this site:
my son is recently enlisted
What were your feelings when your Sailor joined the Navy:
I was very proud that my son choose to join the Navy and serve his country after graduating college rather than rushing off to make the proverbial almighty dollar. I truly believe that his Navy service will not only benefit our country during his enlistment, but will also be advantageous to him after he leaves the service.
What is your relationship with your sailor
dad
Chris is in Norfolk aboard the USS San Antonio (LPD-17).

Hey Ted! Congrat to Chris on finishing A School and going to the fleet. My son Kevin is also home from P'cola and will be leaving in about 2 weeks heading to Sasebo, Japan. Let me know how it goes!

Yes the San Antonio is ported in Norfolk, Paul, and it would be cool if Eric and Chris could get together. I get the impression from Chris that he expects the San Antonio to be deployed fairly soon because of its anti-piracy and anti-terrorism capabilities. If you’ve heard from Eric that the Roosevelt is going to be moving out soon as well maybe they’ll be in the same task force. Chris hasn’t said anything about where the San Antonio’s going (although I think he has the general location in mind), but personally I think the only way to stop the Somali pirates is to get some boots on the ground over there to take out the ring leaders, planners and money men that send naive teenage pirates out to do their dirty work so my guess would be the San Antonio’s going somewhere close to the Horn of Africa.

Ted---isn't the San Antonio ported in Norfolk? Think it's moored just down from the Roosevelt (my son's carrier) and the GW Bush......maybe Eric and Chris and get together one of these days....

Thanks for your last comment, Paul. Unfortunately, I deleted it, and my reply, as I was mucking around trying to figure out how to post here. Is there a way I can restore it? Basically, I said that if you still have unanswered question after having gone through the process twice with your two sailors then you can bet that I'll post whenever I've a question. Thanks again for working so hard on this site to help us Navy parents better understand what our children are going through.

Ted, I am glad that you have joined us. Take some time and look around the site. Get involved in some of the groups and discussions that are going on. Maybe start one of your own. This is your site to use and enjoy. We love to talk about our sailors around here and we have been known to brag on them a little too. We are also here to support and encourage each other. After all we are in this together. I have two sons and they are both in the military. My youngest joined the Air Force over 4 years ago. My oldest joined the Navy and is in Everett WA. stationed on the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72. Please thank Chris for his service to this great country from an old Vietnam Vet. Thank you for your service to this great country through your work on behalf of the veteran’s. As a veteran, I humbly thank you. Thank you for raising a fine young man.

I hope you take some time Ted and explore the Bootcamp group posts. There is a wealth of information there to help you prepare for this most remarkable journey into Navy life. You'll note that, save for the famous 30-second call and the famous box you'll receive, you won't hear anything from him for awhile-- typically about three-weeks...and then it still short and sparse. His recruiter should have ship and division information so you will have correct addresses to write to. He won't receive those letters for a while either...but keep writing as it will be a connection to home.

And us ethe site to help you prepare for PIR.....you might as well buy some extra tissues...no matter how tough a dad you might think you are, when you see his division march through the door, I bet you'll have a tear or two! Best Regards and tell Chris that he has our prayers with him. Paul

Welcome to NavyDads Ted! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric is almost two months into a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat just returned from her seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Ted this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Chris is doing!

Be sure to spend some time in the Bootcamp group- there are many questions and answers available to help you understand what your sailor is going through. And as PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailors PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul

Ted, Welcome Aboard!. I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud navy dads just like myself. Thank your son for his service for me and thanks again for joining. Sincerely, EG
