Just got home from my son's PIR on 04-22-11

What a great time we had! My son's division, Div 144, was an honor division, the only one out of 11 divisions graduating on Good Friday.  We spent Friday after PIR chatting, went out to eat, had a great time with him.  He left Saturday morning for Goose Creek, South Carolina, where he will be in Nuke school for the next 18 months.I highly recommend the Residence Inn in Waukegan if you need a place to stay, they will arrange a shuttle to get you to and from the PIR ceremony, they have a…See More

Div 144 had "Battle Stations" on Sunday night

Got a call from my son, Steven, yesterday afternoon.  He said they had done Battle Stations on Sunday night, and everything went smooth as glass!  He said he didn't find any of it terribly difficult, it was fun.  He did add that yesterday afternoon, everyone was very tired, he said there were guys leaning against the wall standing up, and they were sound asleep! Nice going, buddy!  I knew you'd do good! See More

My son is a little over 2 weeks into boot camp, his graduation is 22 April.  Does anyone else here have a sailor graduating then?  I sure am proud of my son!  We got a letter from him today, I had to laugh when I read it, because everything he told me that was happening are things I told him about before he left, such as the RDC's yelling all the time, short on sleep, etc.  I replied to his letter a while ago, I told him that as soon as his division starts to "get it", the RDC's will yell a…See More

Harley, Welcome Aboard!

When my son first enlisted in the Navy I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to his future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads but found out I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and hope this site will benefit fathers that follow behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your Sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Steven for his service for me and for yours as well. Thanks again for joining us.

Sincerely, E.G.

Welcome to NavyDads.com Harley! I'm sure you'll find NavyDads as useful, educational and informative as I have. Please explore the site and make some new friends. Read the discussions and add your comments. Browse through the postings in the various groups or start a new one. I certainly have! If you have any comments, questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...be sure to post them! In my experience someone here can answer your questions or concerns or can point you in the direction to find out. I'm blessed to have two sailors in the family - my son Eric (AM3) is stationed on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat (MC3) just completed her enlistment on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Harley this is a great place to brag as well! So join in, get active, and be sure to let us know how Steven is doing! Please remember that we talk about the Navy here and we must keep the security and safety of our sailors and the fleet in mind. On the right side of every NavyDads page is an area we call About This Site. Please take a minute and read through the Operations Security (OPSEC) link for some guidelines as to what we should and should not talk about in a public forum.

As a parent of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your son is going through. In the Navy Bootcamp group is a discussion called A MUST READ for all New Navy Parents. Read through this post as it will do a lot to give you some understanding about what your sailor is learning and why. And be sure to check out the videos available in the Bootcamp Group as well.

As PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailor's PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul

Welcome aboard to Navy Dads Harley! When my son first enlisted, I was a little scared and worried for him. Not coming from a military family at all, I had no idea what to expect. What I found out was that he had made the most mature decision of his life! I found lots of answers to my questions right here on NavyDads.com. I will brag a little here and tell you that I was the first dad outside of the creator’s family to join this site. After two years, E.G. and Paul asked me to become one of the co-administrators. I was honored. But this is not about me, it’s about you and your Sailor!

I have one sailor in the family - my son Stephen is an AWO2. (Air warfare systems operator) He is a Petty Officer 2nd Class and flies in the P-3 Orion sub hunter. Currently he is with VP-45 in Jacksonville, FL. This is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Steven is doing!

We do ask that you remember that we talk about the Navy here and we must keep the security and safety of our sailors in mind at all times. On the starboard side of every Navy Dads page is an area we call “About Us.” Please take a minute and read through the Operations Security (OPSEC) link and the NavyDads Guidelines link. Also check out the FAQs at the top of the pages, and also on the starboard side. There is lots of information there as well. Also be sure to check out the “Navy Dads Tutorial” in the FAQ section. It’s a short video that will help you to navigate around the site.

Also be sure to stop by the NavyDads official store- Navyoutfitters.com. The Navy Blue tee shirt with the NavyDads.com logo is my favorite! Again, welcome and we’ll see you around the fleet! GO NAVY! HOOYAH!

Best Regards- Jim
