I am an informal adoptive mom of this soon to be sailor. He has been a friend of my son's since 4 years old. He has become a member of our family and we are all very close and are proud of him.

What were your feelings when your Sailor joined the Navy:
I will admittedly say that I was very scared and unsure about this decision. As I know that he is strong, confident and responsible - my concerns were my lack of knowledge of how the Navy would treat him. As I become more knowledgeable, I do believe that he will be treated fairly.

Ileana, “Welcome Aboard”. I am glad that you have joined us. Please take sometime to look around the site and get involved in some of the groups and discussions that are going on. Maybe start one of your own. This site is for you to use and enjoy. We love to talk about our sailors around here and we have even been known to brag on them a little. We are also here to support and encourage each other. After all we are all in this together. I have two sons and they are both in the military. My youngest joined the Air Force over 4 years ago. My oldest joined the Navy and is stationed on the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72. Please thank Eric for his service to this great country from an old Vietnam Vet. I can relate to your situation somewhat because I have a informal adopted son who just finished Army boot camp. He adopted my wife and me as his military parents. Eric will be fine in the Navy because even though it may not sound like it in some of the stories they really do take good care of the sailors. They want every one of them to do well and come out better than they went in. and your right knowledge is power. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. Some of the answers may be addressed in the groups and discussion too.

Ileana, Welcome Aboard! and thanks for joining us dads. I'm so glad to have the moms on here to keep us men in line. We will help in any way we can. So please jump right in share concerns, join groups, and show off your sailor. I hope this site will benefit you during your second sons journey in the Navy. Thank him for his service for me and thanks again for joining. Sincerely, EG

Welcome to NavyDads Ileana! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric is almost half-way through a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat recently returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Ileana this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Eric is doing!

As a "parent" of a sailor currently or soon to be at Great Lakes you'll have many questions about what your son is going through. Thanks to one of our members we have two excellent videos that you can access from the Video area on the NavyDads.com main page: New Bootcamp 1 of 2 and New Bootcamp 2 of 2. These videos will answer many of your questions and concerns and will give you a better understanding of how the United States Navy transforms our children into sailors!

Be sure to spend some time in the Bootcamp group- there are many questions and answers available to help you understand what your sailor is going through. And as PIR draws closer, be sure to spend some time going through the PIR-Tips, Hints and Helps group- we’ve tried to assemble some tips and suggestions to make your sailors PIR more enjoyable. Best Regards- Paul
