"Jim, Yes on the 24th. The Navy does not take breaks when it comes to boot camp. It will be 8 weeks. My son went in 9/8 and his PIR is 10/30. Holidays will be treated as a standdown day or a Sunday, day of rest. Randy "

"Our son said he's shipping out to GL on Nov 24th, but that doesn't seem right to me. I've also heard different lengths of time for bootcamp, 7, 8, 9, and 9.5wks. Can someone chime in with the answer to that one? :) Thanks, Jim"

"You might try to contact the ombudsman at RTC to answer that question. I seriously doubt that they get to leave Great Lakes during Christmas. Remember, Recruit Training Command is just that...they are not in the Navy yet until graduation."

Hi Jeff
My son is in NAVY diver training in Panama City Beach, class 1030. There was no diver group on NAVY Dads so if you are interested you might wont to check Diver at NAVY Moms. The training is very difficult in pre-dive at GL. My sons swim partner was the best swimmer in his training division and was dropped on the last day of training. My sons pre-dive class started with about 35 and 14 made it to PCB. Good luck to your son. I post under CMESA on NAVY Moms.
