Jim,

Here is what happened for us. They were on hold first till there were enough for a class. Duty and watch was very easy, sweeping rooms and snow duty then study the book they are given. Tell him to read read read. the whole class is straight out of the book they give him. The hold is a week to a month. The week before classing up they do a finance class then a Basic life saftey course. They will have room and uniform inspections so stay on point and in navy order. Classes are lectures with instuctors reading out of the same book they are given. Test are once a week 80 questions in an hour and you must get 70% or above or fail. Fail the same test twice and get sent back to next class. Three failed tests and you are booted out to fleet in a different rate so study. PT is too easy. They are allowed telephones , computers and i-pods the first day at A-school side of base so be ready to take them to him at PIR or ship to him after. If you need someone to store his computer till he gets to base I could have my son meet you and help out. You will probably be grad and go the same day as PIR so he can have it right away. Each test get harder so far. The sections in the book at first have 4 pages now on test 5 the sections have 50 pages. Just alot more reading and remembering. I am on the chat line every day if you have any questions and John Frank is as well.

Jim, Welcome Aboard!

My son is an ABE aboard the USS Ronald Reagan in San Diego, Ca. and my family and I couldn't be prouder of him. When he first enlisted I found NavyForMoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your Sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Todd, Jeff, & your grandson for their service for me and for yours as well. Thanks again for joining us.

Sincerely, EG

Welcome to NavyDads Jim! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun, useful, and educational as I have. Explore the site and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I certainly have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailors and what they are going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors in the family - my son Eric (AM3) returned spring '09 from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat (MC3) is about to complete her five-year enlistment on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Jim this is a great place to brag about your sailors as well! So join in and let us know how Jeff and Todd are doing! We do ask that you remember that we talk about the Navy here and we must keep the security and safety of our sailors in mind at all times. On the right side of every NavyDads page is an area we call About This Site. Please take a minute and read through the Operations Security (OPSEC) link and the NavyDads Guidelines link. And stop by the NavyDads offical store- Navyoutfitters.com. Show your support for NavyDads by wearing the latest in NavyDads attire. Best Regards- Paul
