Headed out to sea.  First, time I have ever heard Scotland described as "warm."  Guess that it's all relative after the North Pole.

I thought I saw photos of the USS Franklin in recent stories about the possible restoration of the SS United States steamship, and that the Franklin was tied up nearby?!

I think that they have one more port call, north of their last one; however, I really don't know right now whether they're in the Med or the Atlantic. I think you are right in that everyone's a little homesick. Travis got leave…

Incredible, actually got two telephone calls from Travis while on liberty at their last port call. All seems well! We had sent birthday cards first week of May and they didn't get to the boat until last week, so "snail mail" is REALLY…

We haven't heard yet from Travis, who is a TM but joined the boat so late that he wasn't included in the posted watch schedule, so he's working in the galley this trip so far. My wife, Cathy, noticed yesterday on Navy Moms that folks…

Well, it's quite a long story, but the short version is that Travis rejoined the crew just about 10 days before they departed for the Atlantic crossing. He is rated as MM (Sub)(Weapons), or what they used to call a Torpedoman's Mate,…

I'd like to sent it to you, but I'm still new to this site so I don't know how to find your email address on here. I'll contact the admin as see if that's possible.

I'll be happy to share any news I get. We just got back in touch with the ombudsman and should be getting the monthly news letter again soon by email. I have her contact info if you need it. She said the May letter is late getting out because they are waiting on a letter from the captain.

I'm sure you're as anxious as we are about this first deployment. Not knowing much............, well, it just isn't any fun.

Russell, “Welcome Aboard”. I am glad that you have joined us. I see that you have been busy. Check out some of the groups and some of the other discussions that are going on. This site is for you to use and enjoy. We love to talk about our sailors around here and we have been known to brag on them a little. We are also here to support and encourage each other. After all we are all in this together. I have two sons and they are both in the military. My youngest joined the Air Force 5 years ago. My oldest joined the Navy and is stationed on the USS Abraham Lincoln CVN 72. Please thank Travis for his service to this great country from an old Vietnam Vet. Thank you for raising a fine young man.

Welcome to NavyDads Russell! I'm sure you'll find the site as fun and useful as I have. Explore and make some friends, add your comments to a discussion or two, read the postings in the various groups-- even start one or two. I have! If you have any questions or concerns about your sailor and what he is going through...ask! I'm sure someone here will have the answer or can point you in the right direction to find out. I'm lucky enough to have two sailors- my son Eric just returned from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and my daughter Kat returned last fall from a seven-month cruise on the carrier Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72). And Russell this is a great place to brag about your sailor as well! So join in and let us know how Travis is doing! Best Regards- Paul

Russell, Welcome Aboard! I found navyformoms in searching for answers to my son's future. I just knew their had to be a site for dads like n4m's but I was wrong. So I started this site so us dads would also have a place to call home. I'm new at this and I hope this site will benefit fathers that come behind us. So jump right in share concerns, join groups, share info, and show off your sailor. I'm so glad to find out their are so many proud Navy Dads just like myself. I hope this site benefits you and your family throughout your sons journey in the Navy. Thank Travis for his service for me and thanks again for joining us.
Sincerely, EG
